Highlight Gallery Selected Item If Statement

Hello,

I currently have the TemplateFill property of my home screen gallery set to If(ThisItem.IsSelected,LightBlue,White) and it is working as expected. As the user clicks from item to item in the gallery, the row is highlighted.

When the user submits a new request form they are automatically redirected back to the home screen gallery and a notification appears across the top that their item was successfully submitted. There is a bit of a visual disconnect as the item they just submitted is not highlighted, some other item is. Is there a way I can adjust my If formula to accommodate both of these needs?

Thank you in advance for your help!

Teresa

@PowerAddict

Oh goodness no!!  You certainly did not offend and your input is ALWAYS welcome.

If apologies are due, it is that I was so excited to have Internet service again this morning that I jumped right back to where I had left of before it went out and had already put together some reply - in that excitement, I didn't get a chance to fully read over all of the newly added messages (my default was still set on the last message I submitted - lol)

Any way, I have had a chance to go over the messages now and there are certainly a variety of options to explore for @tagustin2020

As for Defaults - here is my rule...if it doesn't work as expected (which is to always set the default) then something is not working properly with my formulas.  If I have to reset, then there is something going wrong.  If I have to "variable" around it, then something is wrong.

NOW, that is a general statement on Defaults.  There are times that all of the above are needed for a variety of other reasons, but as a rule, if it failing, something is suspect.

I have seen issues with having to reset a gallery if my Items property contains calculated columns or other additional columns filtered from other sources.

Anyway - definitely welcome to crash a message - all aspects are welcome!

@RandyHayes @PowerAddict Hello there, I read through your messages and watched the videos, but haven't had a chance to try them out yet as I ended up spending all day trying to get my percent complete slider to work (Randy is also helping me with that one). I got up at 3am this morning so it is time to take a break from the computer. I'll start fresh on the highlight gallery project tomorrow and will let you know how it goes. Thank you both so much for helping me. You've certainly given me many options to try! Kindest regards to both of you, Teresa

@PowerAddict @RandyHayes

Hello,

This suggestion worked. I will mark it as a solution. You have no idea how much I appreciate it. With the news emphasizing people not being nice, it is so great to meet people like you who go out of your way to help others. Thank you very much to the both of you for helping me out.

Kind regards,

Teresa

Hi @tagustin2020

Glad I could help! It was definitely great working with you and hopefully will happen again in the future! Also, special thanks to @RandyHayes for all his insights, always a pleasure to go through his messages. If any of his messages, especially the last one with the video, also worked for you, I suggest marking that one as a solution as well (you can mark more than one as a solution). That will help anyone else with a similar question to review multiple solution approaches.

Good luck with the rest of the app! Feel free to reach out in case of any questions!

Thanks!

Hi Hardit,

Thank you for letting me know I can mark multiple items as solutions. I didn't know that before. Have a nice evening!

Teresa

Hi Hardit,

I hope you are doing well. I could have sworn that I marked yours and Randy's suggestions as solutions at the time, but I don't see a green bar anywhere. Are you sure we can mark more than 1 as a solution?

I'm attaching final screenshots of what got my app working.

Teresa

@tagustin2020

Sounds good.  Just remember for this app and that solution that your Gallery.Selected property will never be reliable.  So you'll just need to keep that in mind in case you expand this app in the future.  Perfectly fine, just keep in mind.

Hi @tagustin2020

Good to hear from you again! This post does have 3 accepted solutions - so I think you should be good. For your reference,

Thanks,

@PowerAddict Great, thank you Hardit. I am currently struggling to get a deep link working. I'm going to submit a separate post for it. If this is an area of expertise for you and you have time, would you mind taking a look at it? No need to respond here. Kind regards, Teresa

Four steps to achieve this seems quite to much; if an item is selected does not necessarily mean you first have to store the current record and then calculate if this is the one you want to highlight ... simply use the TemplateFill directly:
In [TemplateFill]:  If(Self.IsSelected; HoneyDew; White)

Or whatever coloring you like. 😃
