Objective: Automatically parse parameter from Canvas App to Power Automate Flow, and populate results of Power Automate Flow into a dropdown control.
I have a Power Automate Flow in my Canvas App that fetches list of 'Areas'.'hsl_name' that are associated to a 'systemuserid'. (Many-to-Many relationship)
1) Value of 'systemuserid' to be parsed in automatically/dynamically from dropdown control 'Self_Section_EmployeeName_Ddl'.'User'.
2) Results from Power Automate Flow ('Areas'.'hsl_name') then be populated into dropdown control 'Area_Ddl'.'hsl_name'
May I know how can this be done?
Thank you.
@gymcode you can use the ‘Ask in PowerApps’ feature.
This feature lets you prompt the user for input when the Canvas App triggers the flow.
Create a new parameter in your Power Automate Flow by clicking the '+ Add new parameter' button. Name it and choose the 'Ask in PowerApps' option. Save the Flow.
Include a dropdown control and set its 'Items' property to the list of 'Areas' linked to the 'systemuserid'. Add a button to the Canvas App that activates the Power Automate Flow.
In the ‘OnSelect’ property of the button, add the following code:
YourFlowName.Run(DropdownControlName.Selected.Value)
Save and test your Canvas App.
When the user clicks the button, the Power Automate Flow will be triggered, and the user will be prompted to select an ‘Area’ from the dropdown control. The selected value will be passed as a parameter to the Flow.
Hi @BDallas , apologies, missed out a point on my end.
Parsing of the 'systemuserid' value from 'Employee_Ddl' to Power Automate Flow will need to be automatic for my scenario (onLoad), to auto populate all 'Areas' associated to this 'systemuserid' into the 'Areas_Ddl' dropdown control.
I will attempt to modify your suggested formula in the meantime
Hi @BDallas , as my 'systemuserid' needs to be parsed in automatically to the PowerAutomateFlow, I think the changes may be different.
May I know how can I modify the PowerAutomateFlow so as to create a 'systemuserid' input, and modifying the 'List Rows' function to Filter Rows based on the parsed in 'systemuserid' value instead of the current hard coded GUID?
I'm thinking the method of calling the PowerAutomateFlow will be different too, as this action is not manually triggered by user.
Thank you.
@gymcode To enhance your flow, introduce a fresh input parameter labeled 'systemuserid.' Within the 'Get Items' action, swap the rigid GUID with the newly added 'systemuserid' input parameter.
Incorporate a supplementary filter query in the 'Get Items' action to refine rows according to the 'systemuserid' input parameter.
Below is an example of refining your existing expression:
ExportFCPRosterbyUnit.Run(
"((Unit eq null) or (Unit eq ‘" & UnitDropdown_3.Selected.Value & “‘)) and
((Rank eq null) or (Rank eq ‘" & RankDropdown_2.Selected.Value & "')) and
((Marital_×0020_Status eq null) or (Marital_×0020_Status eq ‘" & MarritalStatusDropdown_2.Selected.Value & "’)) and
((Mil_x0020_to_×0020_Mil_×0020_Sta eq null) or (Mil_x0020_to_×0020_Mil_×0020_Sta eq ‘" & MiltoMiLDropdown_2.Selected.Value & "’)) and
((FCP_×0020_Required eq null) or (FCP_×0020_Required eq ‘“ & FCPDropdown_2.Selected.Value & "')) and
SystemUserId eq '" & systemuserid & "'"
)
The code a new filter query to filter rows based on the ‘systemuserid’ input parameter. This will filter the rows based on the parsed in ‘systemuserid’ value.
Hi @BDallas , allow me to go step-by-step, which I'm going with the following action first.
"introduce a fresh input parameter labeled 'systemuserid.' Within the 'Get Items' action, swap the rigid GUID with the newly added 'systemuserid' input parameter."
I have created an Input variable of Text type in my Flow, and left it as 'blank' , and amended the Filter Rows condition in bold, from hard-coded GUID to initialized variable systemuserid.
(hsl_systemuser_hsl_area/any(o1:(o1/systemuserid eq systemuserid)))
I am proceeding with the Flow.Run statement. For this statement, can it be used in a dropdown control's .Items formula? Reason is because this flow needs to be automatically triggered during onChange of a Employee dropdown control instead of a manual button onSelect.
Thank you.
I am assuming that triggering a Power Automate Flow is not possible outside a button.
Therefore, I have also created a button, as suggested, and used the formulas below for 'button.OnSelect'
Collect(BookableAreas, PowerAppV2_ListBookingAreas.Run(Self_Section_EmployeeName_Ddl.Selected.User));
The collection is then populated into a dropdown control, but the values were
{"resultForm":"void"}
May I know where I have gone wrong?
Thank you.

Update: I changed the 'Fields' in the dropdown control, but only 1 'Value' of boolean type was displayed
I have also checked the flow raw output, and it did fetch the correct 'Areas' value.
