How to run a flow from Power Apps which still runs for Blank Values in Drop downs.

Hi all,

 

I have a flow running from Power apps when the user presses a submit button.

 

There are 5 dropdowns for project choices and then 5 dropdowns for the corresponding percentage (Allocation) to each project. The user must first fill in the drop downs and select a project from each drop down, and then select the Allocation from the drop down next to it.  Now it can be the case that not all 5 are selected, therefore I set AllowEmptySelection to true so the user can just fill in selections for 3 projects for example, instead of all 5, therefore 2 dropdown boxes are left blank.

 

I therefore changed my formula to:

However, it does not accept this. The issue is with the project dropdown i.e., paProject1/2/3/4/5, not the allocation as in power automate I have allowed 0% to be accepted for the allocation.

 

Does anyone know how to run a flow for empty/blank drop downs.

another question around this - was it the Default or the DefaultSelectedItems that you modified? and is it a text field?

Also - I would temporarily remove the navigate option so that you can press the button and see the code error highlighted in the code - worth taking a screenshot of that and sending here

It was the Default I modified. It is not a text field, it is a drop down, of which the options are chosen come from a sharepoint list called 'Projects List' as the data source.

 

Text 4 is the paProject4. 

 

Removing Navigate says there is an invalid number of arguments .

Invalid number of arguments likely indicates that you are missing a closing bracket somewhere as it considers the navigate part of the parameters..

could you paste the whole section of code you are using on that button6?

It accepts this code no issues. The issue comes when i submit it doesn't recognise the blanks still, saying there is an invalid parameter for text 4 - which is the one I have left blank for the purpose of testing. For example, If I leave paProject2 blank, It says invalid parameter for text 2; If I leave Paproject5 blank it says invalid parameter for text 5... and so on...

 

It just doesn't seem to ignore the blanks and continue with running the flow....

Right, so there shouldn't be a navigate inside your flow run parameters as its trying to send that to flow - could you try the below and let me know what it says - I think you are still missing a parameter but will need to know what its saying before I can evaluate further.

Yes it is missing a parameter. Receives 12, expects 13. In my flow from powerapps, 13 should be received. However the 13th isn't part of my app, so I do not know how to incorporate. See attached. The paSubmitter is the person submitting to capture how many times they submit and then creates a submission Number for that entry.

Ok, well I can seey ou've made it a text variable and we need to make it something unique so that you can capture only unique people so we should use their email address or their Office365 GUID/ID.

 

We can use the User() function to get the user details of the person running the app at that moment in time within that instance and then use the Email property from that, like this:

The formula works perfectly, no longer says missing a parameter or invalid number of arguments. So that is great. However, again when I press submit, if I leave text 3/paproject3 blank, it says invalid value for parameter text 3. See attached. 

 

The problem seems to just be running the flow when there are blank values - it doesn't accept it.

What is the default and DefaultSelectedItem for the dropdown?

Try clearing both of their formulae, this should leave a blank if the dropdown is set to allow empty selections

We are excited to announce the Summer of Solutions Challenge!   This challenge is kicking off on Monday, June 17th and will run for (4) weeks.  The challenge is open to all Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio & Power Pages) community members. We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions in the Forums to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.    Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”)   - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024   Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods.  You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately.   How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.
