Incompatible data types

I am attempting to create a custom form in powerapps for a list on my Sharepoint site. I have two columns one called Root Cause Primary and the other is called Root Cause Secondary. Both these columns pull data from a separate SharePoint list, I am having trouble however in trying to get the Root Cause Secondary column to filter the choices based upon the selection of Root Cause Primary.  Below is what I put for my filter but I am getting the incompatible data types error for comparing Table to Table.

Filter('Root Cause Secondary'.Title, DataCardValue15.SelectedItems = 'Root Cause Secondary'.RootCause)

@Incident-Manage ,
After all of that, I think all you need is

Filter(
   'Root Cause Secondary',
   DataCardValue15.Selected.Title in RootCause
)

As you had not commented on my two many-to-many references, I assumed this was the case.

Hi @Incident-Manage ,

I am flying blind here a bit with values, but I suspect you have a many-to-many relationship here (multiple Items selected in DataCardValue15 matching multiple records in 'Root Cause Secondary' ). On the assumptions that the Items of DataCardValue15 show the field Title and you are trying to match the field RootCause in 'Root Cause Secondary' , you would need something like this

UnGroup(
   ForAll(
      DataCardValue15.SelectedItems As aSel,
      Filter(
         'Root Cause Secondary',
         RootCause = aSel.Title
      )
   ),
   "Value"
)

@WarrenBelz DataCardValue15 is my Root Cause Primary and is tied to the column title RootCause I have this field set to only allow someone completing the form to make a single selection, the Root Cause Secondary is pulled from the Column Title which is where I am attempting to compare so if someone were to select say the Primary Root Cause was a Network Failure they would then only see things that have Network Failure in the column Root Cause.

@Incident-Manage ,

Sorry, without seeing your data structure that is still not clear to me - so 3 basic questions

  • What is the Items of  DataCardValue15 and what field is it displaying (DataCardValue15.Selected.????)
  • Which field in 'Root Cause Secondary' are you trying to match to the items selected in DataCardValue15 ?
  • Is this a many-to-many search ?

@WarrenBelz

DataCardValue15 is pulling from a list called Root Cause Primary and the column is title so I am feeding it RootCausePrimary.Title and contains the options Vendor, Network Failure, Application Failure, Telecom Failure, Facilities Issue, Hardware/System Failure.

Root Cause Secondary which in the form is DataCardValue16 pulls from the list Root Cause Secondary, in this list I have one column which has the choices I want to be available which is RootCauseSecondary.Title I want the options to be filtered so that it only shows items that have a value that matches what was selected in from the Root Cause Primary on DataCardValue15 to the values in RootCauseSecondary.RootCause. Below is a sample of what my lists look like.

Root Cause Primary List

Vendor Failure
Network Failure
Application Failure

Telecom Failure

Facilities Issue

Hardware/System Failure

Root Cause Secondary List

WindstreamVendor Failure
VerizonVendor Failure
ComcastVendor Failure
MicrosoftVendor Failure
EmailApplication Failure
Medical Record SystemApplication Failure
SwitchNetwork Failure
FirewallNetwork Failure
SwitchTelecom Failure
SIP Cube

Telecom Failure

Power Outage

Facilities Issue

Server Failure

Hardware/System Failure

@Incident-Manage ,'

Did you try the code I posted ? If it does not work, can you please give me simple short answers for the three questions I asked.

@WarrenBelz I tried the code you posted and it gave me a different incompatible error this one saying Text, Error.

  • What is the Items of  DataCardValue15 and what field is it displaying (DataCardValue15.Selected.????) The items from DataCardValue15 is 'Root Cause Primary'.Title
  • Which field in 'Root Cause Secondary' are you trying to match to the items selected in DataCardValue15 ? I am attempting to match the field 'Root Cause Secondary'.RootCause which has copies of the data to link the items sort of like a Main Category to a Sub Category.
  • Is this a many-to-many search ? It is a single-to-many search so Root Cause Primary has 7 possible selections and a user is only able to select 1 option from the dropdown, those options then link to the secondary where depending on the Primary selected it could populate as many as 21 options to choose from.

@Incident-Manage ,
After all of that, I think all you need is

Filter(
   'Root Cause Secondary',
   DataCardValue15.Selected.Title in RootCause
)

@WarrenBelz that works and filters however I am getting a delegation warning.

@Incident-Manage ,

Yes - the in Filter is not Delegable - there is no workaround for this in your case unless you can "pre-filter" the dataset with some other restriction. If the record numbers in 'Root Cause Secondary' are under your Delegation limit then it will work anyway.
