Integrating Power Apps and Tableau

Hi everyone,

I'm pretty new to Power Apps and I'm attempting to find a way to link an app to a Tableau Dashboard:

I have a Tableau Dashboard which tracks Purchase Orders delivery time status. The idea is for users to identify the Past-Due POs in Tableau. There the user will be able to click the unique PO number in the dashboard and that will take them into the Power Apps, where they can create a record and keep track of any actions done to drive PO delivery completion.

From there, two things can happen:

• If the PO number doesn't have a record - Power Apps will ask them to create a new record with the established fields.
• If the PO number already has a record - Power Apps will display the existing data in the SharePoint List.

I have created a SharePoint List, where all the records will be stored, and I've integrated a simple Power Apps to it. I'm now trying to figure out what I need to do so the above can happen, or if this is even possible to do.

Does anyone know if the above is possible? If so - Any guidance would be really appreciated.

Hi @Genis 

Its totally possible. Each power app, can use a deep link URL to access it. At the same time you can pass parameters in the link.

In the app, when it loads, in the App.OnStart, you can check to see if the URL has the parameter (the ID you speak of the PO).

If it does, it can load the screen up with data.

If not, it can load the screen, propopulate things etc.

So its 1000000% doable. The only part is can you in Tableau create the hyperlink on the dashboard row/field for them to click. if the answer is yes, Its truly as simple as I said.

Hi Mike,

Thanks! Knowing that it can be possible is quite encouraging. The blog you shared was really helpful and I was able to create the link from Tableau as you mentioned. I'm only struggling with the formula/code I would need to  place as the "On Start".

I'm thinking I may need some sort of "IF" conditional or a LookUp, or even both; but can't quite figure it out. Would you know what method should I use?

I've been playing around the below formula, but I doubt I'm close.

Set (varPONum, Value(Param"PONum"));

IF ( varPONum <> 0, LookUp([@'SharePointList'], PO = var PONum)); Navigate(Detail Screen)

I would need for Power Apps to receive the Parameter of the PO Number and do a LookUp, If there is a match, go to Details Screen and display the PO with that PO Number, if there is not a match, go to Edit Screen so they can create a record.

I've made it somewhat work! I've set up the On Start as below. This now makes that if the PO has a record in PowerApps, it will display it, but it the PO has no record, it will stuck on "getting your data" as it's not founding anything. What can I add so that if there is no match, it goes to either the BrowseScreen or to the Edit Form?
