Link to Item Email Update Issue

Hello,

I have two SharePoint Lists, one for tracking requests called Support Requests and one for storing the notes users input for each request called Progress Notes.   I then created a customized PowerApp form for the Support Requests list, and added a gallery to the form to display the progress notes.  In my PowerApps customized form the OnSave function will patch any added notes to the progress notes list.  If the user updates a support request through SharePoint using their browser there are no issues whatsoever for either list and everything works as intended.

I then have some automated flows that will alert the user when fields change in the support request list.  The user will get an automated email with a link to the item.  However, when the user clicks the link to the item in the email and tries to update the request, that is when issues start to arise.  The support requests list will update correctly, but any progress notes added are ignored and not being patched to the progress notes list, despite the form opening properly in the browser and showing all the correct information and progress notes.

Automated Email Flow:

OnSave Function in Customized Form:

If(SharePointFormMode="CreateForm", SubmitForm(FormNew), If(SharePointFormMode="EditForm", SubmitForm(FormEdit))); If(!IsBlank(txtComment.Text), Patch('Progress Notes', {Title:"PN", ItemID: SharePointIntegration.SelectedListItemID, Creator: User().FullName, Comment:txtComment.Text}))

It appears that when going through the email link the OnSave code does not execute the Patch command.  Not sure why that would be though.

The email link and the sharepoint/browser link are slightly different, but I'm not sure if that is causing the issue?

I have also tried to remove the Link to Item dynamic content and instead use the code below, but it did not fix the issue.

Here are a few additional images to show the forms layout.

Thank you in advance for any and all help!

Hi Alex,

The button works, but I had to switch the Patch commands to in front of the SubmitForm command.  This led me to wonder if I switched the order in SharePointIntegration for the OnSave command if it would work as well.  It did.  So anyone who may come looking for a solution in the future, I had to switch my OnSave command to the order below.

If(!IsBlank(txtComment.Text), Patch('Progress Notes', {Title:"PN", ItemID: SharePointIntegration.SelectedListItemID, Creator: User().FullName, Comment:txtComment.Text})); If(SharePointFormMode="CreateForm", SubmitForm(FormNew), If(SharePointFormMode="EditForm", SubmitForm(FormEdit)))

Thank you for your help.

Hi,

Looking through this issue, it looks like there is some kind of issue with the canvas app function. You can always try switching the onsave over to on the press of a button and see if when you force the command through if it throws the same issue. Otherwise we do have the monitor function built into PowerApps now that can help. This might be a better question for the Microsoft support team. I'll include a link below; if you would like to go down that route.

If you would like to create a ticket with Microsoft Customer Support here is a link on how to do so: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-platform/admin/get-help-support

Regards,

Alex

Hi Alex,

Thank you for the advice.  I hadn't thought about adding a button.  I will give it a whirl and see what I find.  I was also unaware of the monitor feature, so this is great to know.  Thank you again for the help!
