Linking a Checkbox to a Forms Datacard for a Yes/No Combo Box

I am somewhat new to building PowerApps, and totally self-taught.  I have been doing ok, but I have completely hit the wall on this one.

In building a Canvas App, the form I have connected to a Dataverse Table is creating a Combo box (Yes/No) data card to represent one of the columns on the table.  I wish to use a “Checkbox” on the form, but I cannot figure out how to link the True/False of the checkbox to the “Yes”/”No” of the combo box.

I have been going through article after article as well as many different videos to show how this is done, and nothing I try seems to work.

I was able to get the checkbox to display as checked or unchecked based on the initial value in the combo box of yes/no, but I cannot seem to get it to go the other way (when I change the value of the Checkbox, I cannot get it to update the value in the Combo box).

I have also followed instructions to change the Combo box to a Checkbox or even a toggle, but it does not work.

So far, here is what I have.

This is the definition in the Dataverse table.

The form that is created provides for this data element in this data card

espencere756_1-1690827283184.png

The checkbox is “ChkDBIsRemote” and the field that PowerApps created for the Dataverse column is “DataCardValue47_1” and it is defined as a Combo box with an items property of..

   Choices('DB_Is_Remote (tab_Databases)')

I defined the Checked property of the checkbox as

   If(DataCardValue47_1.Selected.Value , true,  false)

I have tried several different things for trying to update the DataCardValue47_1 combo box to Yes or No id the checkbox is changed, but nothing I seem to try works.

Any guidance you can provide would greatly be appreciated.

Hi @espencere756 ,

I had a similar problem recently. As you mentioned, the checkboxes have two values: true (when it is checked) and false (when it is unchecked), while the choices in DV Tables have values as Yes/No.

This is what worked for me:

1. You capture the boolean value from your checkbox (highlighted in blue)

2. Insert it into an IF statement in the 'Update' property from your Datacard (highlighted in pink)

3. For the 'true' hypothesis of the IF statement, use the following syntax: '[column_name] ([DV_table_name])'.Yes. In my example, it looked like this: 'yn_col (sample_tables)'.Yes, where 'yn_col' is my column name and 'sample_tables' is my table name.

4. Repeat the same process for the 'false' hypothesis of the if, but setting 'No' in place of 'Yes'.

This is my table before running the App:

Here I'm checking the checkbox (highlighted in blue) for the 'c' record of my DV table (highlighted in yellow), which originally got a value of 'No' (highlighted in green):

After submit the form, the DV table is properly uptaded:

The same logic can be applied when inserting new records to the Dataverse table. I got the ideas for this solution from this post: https://www.spguides.com/power-apps-dataverse-yes-no-field/

Let me know if it works for you or if you need any additional help!

This was actually very helpful.  Although I had issues with it, I was able to use the concepts you were presenting and found this post.

What it presents is virtually what you show here, but with slightly different syntax.  So, Thank you very much.  I believe I have it doing what I want now.

Thanks for your reply.

I tried this, and there seems to be a couple of issues.  First off, Checkbox1.Value does not work.  There is no Value property.  However, there i a "Checked" Property and that will give the Boolean value.

As I completed the If statement, it does not recognize my Column/Tablename and I cannot get the statement to work.
