Locations Near Me

Hello community.

I am currently looking for an advice here:

I have my database with my customers list. I have columns such as Address, City, State, and Zip Code. I have this data represented in a gallery without any issues.

I have a request to add a map and sort the gallery based in the near me option. I am having some hard time trying to get this working.

First. I guess that I need to add a collection and add two new columns for lat / lon because I need to convert the address string?

If so, how to do it.

I need to get my current location or device location? right?

I might need to add a slider to get the radius of my customer around me?

If someone could point me or give me a clue to start doing this ? I really appreciate it.

Regards

The Bing Maps connector can help with much of this, specifically the GetRoute functionality.

To use it, you will need either the lat/long or addresses of the user and each customer. You can access user location on a device with location capability using the Location.Latitude and Location.Longitude functions in Power Apps.

You can query the connector using a ForAll() with the Customers' locations and get back route information and distance for each one. Sort whatever way you like after that.

Hey @BCLS776 , thank you very much for your prompt response. after reading the article still confused. I was able to get the user lat/lon. But I don't know how to implement the near me. I have my gallery but I am sure that I need to create a new collection and add new columns for the lat/lon because I need to transform my address string into lat/lon coordinates. Then plot my location then plot the collection depending on the radius.

Sounds complicated no?

The Bing Maps connector uses syntax such as: BingMaps.GetRouteV2("48.0,-114.0","48.0,-115.0").travelDistance, which normally gives a route distance (not a straight-line distance) between the two sets of coordinates. The connector will also accept addresses, a city "New York, NY", or even a postal/ZIP code to come up with locations.

However, I am having huge problems getting the connector to work within Power Apps today. Bug report coming. The equivalent Power Automate connector works great, but all I get back are blank records within Power Apps.

Using the function call as above, you can build a collection using pairs of coordinates/addresses and storing travelDistance for each.

An alternative, which does calculate straight-line distance, is available in this thread. Use this within a ForAll to build a collection of locations and distances.

Is that enough to get you going?

Bryan

Hey. Thanks again. Sound quite easy but in fact is not, specially for a newbie.

I have been searching around the community and found this video, and it looks like that it has the near me function but I don't get it.

sorry. I will continue searching. It should be an easy solution for this.

An update: Microsoft confirms the problem we saw with the BingMaps.GetRouteV2 connector. The BingMaps.GetRoute connector does work, even though it is deprecated.
