Lookup and aggregate a large number of form values easily

Hi All,

I have a form with about 90 drop downs. The values selected in the drop downs represent parts that go together to make up an assembly. These parts are also in a separate lookup table with their price alongside them.

Is there a way for me to do a lookup of all values selected in the form against the lookup table and return a sum of the values. Or do I need to return individual prices back to the form first and then add them together?

Hi @barrymac20 ,

May I suggest you scrap the form... There are two reasons for this. Forms dont generally place nice with MANY controls and will cause strange issues that are fixed by rebooting or reloading sometimes...

Second: it is much nicer to reference controls outside of a gallery

What you are asking can be done.

With your DropDowns: You can Sum(value(first_dropdown.selected.result), value(second_dropdown.selected.result)) then you could use this result as part of your Lookup() function

Can I ask, if you don't like using forms where there are a lot of controls, what do you use?

Hi @barrymac20 ,

Generally I will just use the controls on the screen itself then split them over multiple screens to provider a better UX (User experience) 

It allows me to reference those controls easier and control them and their layout easier.

So you basically build your own forms?

Hi @barrymac20 ,

Yes but when you come across that error... which doesn't make sense you will be able to work it out and that will pay itself back in Droves. Also your form which is tied to your datasource cannot be easily moved and manipulated between apps.

Our controls on a screen way can easily be manipulated and changed to suit any datasource 🙂

With forms its kind of a black box. It also adds latency to your page as the form needs to load itself then the controls.
