Manually Program Ascending / Descending Icon Search on Gallery

I have a Gallery that I'd like to filter and sort.

I'd like to be able to filter based on StartDatePicker and EndDatePicker (I've got that working).

I'd also like to use the sort icon to switch the Gallery view from A - Z to Z - A based on the 'Main Topic' in the Gallery.

I currently have the following in the Items property of the Gallery.

Filter(HDProofOfConceptList, DateOfRequest>=SupportRequestStartDatePicker.SelectedDate && DateOfRequest<=SupportRequestEndDatePicker.SelectedDate)

Ok here we go, it is all done on my own example, but just switch in what doesn't match your column names source names etc because it is all working as intended.

Start with placing in the OnVisible of page with your gallery

Set(sortdirVar,"Ascending")

I have a text input box with default left blank

I then have my two DatePicker Controls, nothing special about them.

Nearby those I place a checkbox and just call it whatever you want, in my images i have it include a label that says Date Range. Checking this box will filter the gallery based on a date range, not checking it will filter your gallery only if you type in the text input box. checking it will filter the gallery on date range AND text input

Our gallery items, again for my specific source you will need to tweak, are as follows

If(Checkbox10,
Sort(
    Search(
    Filter(
        datesArray,
        Date>DateAdd(DatePicker9.SelectedDate,-1,Days)
        &&
        Date<DateAdd(DatePicker10.SelectedDate,1,Days)
        ),
        TextInput8.Text,
        "Day Name"),Date,sortdirVar),
Sort(
    Search(datesArray, TextInput8.Text,"Day Name"),Date,sortdirVar)
    )

Near this gallery I have a sorting Icon and its onselect is

Switch(

sortdirVar,

"Ascending", Set(sortdirVar, "Descending"),

Set(sortdirVar,"Ascending"))

Below are pictures to demonstrate it working

Got it!

Had to update the fields referenced in the list 'Date' had to be changed to 'DateofRequest', and so on.

What are your thoughts on the delegation error issue? Should I use a collection instead?

FIrst Line: If you won't ever have over 2,000 items then don't worry about it.

Second Line: Program a flow that checks for old non relevant records every night and moves them to an identical, archived list then removes it from active list to keep splist nice and organized.

Third Line If you will definitely have over 2k items and cannot do housekeeping to keep them organized on smaller  active lists: Super Warren Scroll down to over 2k items, and make a collection to work from. It is much more tidy and fast performance wise to not have to do this though

Wrap your filter in a sort, and where it says to put ascending or descending put aomething like sortdirVar then make your icon onSelect

Switch(

sortdirVar,

"Ascending", Set(sortdirVar, "Descending"),

Set(sortdirVar,"Ascending"))

On my cell so it might have some syntax or typing errors but you should be able to figure it out i think

This is what I have; Power Apps doesn't like it.

Sort(Filter(StartsWith(HDProofOfConceptList, MainTopic = TextInput1.Text),MainTopic,sortdirVar)

I'd like the user to be able to user the any words typed into the search box or the date ranger date pickers.

What Error are you getting, and did you set the onselect that switches sortdirVar? in onvisible for that page you will also need to set initial value of sortdirVar

This work to search by the text search box.

Filter( HDProofOfConceptList, StartsWith( MainTopic, TextInput1.Text) )

This works to search by data range of Date Pickers.

Filter(HDProofOfConceptList, DateOfRequest>=SupportRequestStartDatePicker.SelectedDate && DateOfRequest<=SupportRequestEndDatePicker.SelectedDate)

I've got this in the sort icon for the Gallery.

Switch(sortdirVar,"Ascending",
Set(sortdirVar, "Descending"),
Set(sortdirVar,"Ascending"))

How do update the formula to default to all List items and then allow for the user to either filter the existing data by the search textinput, date pickers, and sort either A-Z/Z-A with the sort icon?

I will type this out for you tomorrow if noone beats me to it, but on my cellphone right now and rest of that you added is a bit too much to just type out without testing it first

Added all as and where instructed.

Change Topic to MainTopic and see if it helps, otherwise maybe remove the list from your data sources, then readd it. might just be glitching on you
