Modern combo box not showing the selected option when editing.

I have a modern form.

Due to the limitation of the number of lookup columns in SharePoint list, the column is a text field.

The saved value is a string formatted as "selectedoption1,selectedoption2".

I customized the data card by adding a combo box to provide the users with a list to choose from instead of a free input text.

When the user selects an item in the gallery, a collection of the selected options is created using a Split and ForAll function.

The data source for the combo box is a named formula that returns a table with {Id:Number, Value:Text}.

The combo box DefaultSelectedItems is set to _selectedserversupportfacilities

The collection contains the correct records:

The Value being the text saved in the text column.

This works fine. I used to do this often with classic combo box.

With the modern combo box however, the values are showing as they should,

but as soon as I click the arrow to display the options,

1. The values disappear from the combo box 2. The default values do not show as selected in the option list
3. The selected options are repeated at the bottom of the list and show as selected there.

Can anyone explain why the selected options are added to the bottom of the items list and not showed as selected.

Firstly check if the same settings work in a Classic Combo Box. If so, please consider reverting to this as Modern Controls are still very much “work in progress” and most are still in Preview.

Hi Warren,

I checked with a classic combo and as it works as expected.

I am not keen on reverting to the classic controls. The entire application uses modern controls.

The user experience would be badly affected.

Any chance we can report this issue and get it "fixed" in the next PowerApps versions? How do we know if a bug is being addressed?

There are more issues with modern controls than this presently. They are mostly still in Preview and as well as being unpredictable lack a number of functions of Classic. This is however "work in progress", but their use in production apps may not be a wise direction currently.

That's a pretty poor excuse. As a software developer myself I'd have to question what's the point of previewing a control that is inherently non functional? They've had over four months to fix this.

They shouldn't be promoting features this broken at all and yet all we get are popup invites to use the new modern features the moment we open the studio.

The problem with Microsoft is that they rush features out of the door that are not ready for public consumption and then take ages to fix them, often never fixing them at all. Always on to the next product.
