Passing Data From One Form To Another Form Before The User Submits The Updated Record

Hi beloved community,

Thank you for all the support and assistance. Your help is sorely needed yet again. Please see below.

SCENARIO:

- The user wants to edit the details of person/s associated with a record.

- They can choose a person/s (from a list of 25 people) to be associated with the edited record.

- Once a person has been chosen they cannot be removed but a new person/s can be added to the growing list.

- When the user clicks on a button to ADD PERSON they are navigated to a separate form.

- The separate form has a gallery control that is pulling data from a DIFFERENT SharePoint List.

- The user clicks on a checkbox next to the name/s of the perons/s they want to ADD to the list of person/s on the original form.

- The user clicks a button DONE which navigates the user back to the original form.

- The user sees the updated changes in the original form and confirms the changes are accurate before submitting the updated record back to the original SharePoint list.

- When the user SAVES, the PERSON ID is stored in the original SharePoint List as a foreign key.

PROBLEM:

I can't get the PERSON ID of the person/s selected by the user in the separate form to update into the relevant DataCard/s on the original form when the user leaves the separate form after clicking the DONE button.

Everything else works fine (clearing the variable/s on UNCHECK, updating the variables on ONCHECK, ensuring a check box can only be ticked next to one person etc.) but getting the PERSON ID to show to the user in the DataCard on the original EDIT form BEFORE THE USERS SAVES the record is alluding me.

SCREENSHOTS:

This is the SEPARATE form where the user checks on the checkbox to select the PERSON

geddb_0-1664502397626.png

In the grey area, each person's details displays - all working well.

When the user clicks the DONE button:

The PERSON ID (stored in variables shown in this screenshot) should be pushed (RV0008 into DataCardValue108_1 for PERSON 6 for example) so the details of the NEW PERSON can be shown to the user on the original form for confirmation before saving the updates back to the original SharePoint list.

I hope this gives a clear idea of the requirement. I expected this to be one of the more simple things to achieve but I can't get it to work. I've tried:

- Passing the value from the variable to the DataCard (DataCardValue108_1.Text = varPersonID1) which gives me no result

- Using logic testing in the DEFAULT property of the DataCard to see if DataCardValue108_1.Text is NOT EQUAL to varPersonID1 (IF DataCardValue108_1.Text is NOT EQUAL to variable then UPDATE DataCardValue108_1 with variable value, OTHERWISE use Parent.Default) which gives me circular reference issues

Thank you again in advance. Any assistance will be warmly and appreciatively received.

Can you see the actual value of the variable being updated on your second OnCheck action?

I believe that the varPersonID1 will update in the second form after the OnCheck action in the checkbox which you are expecting to be updated in the datacard, if you check via File>Variables

Hi @Minor7th,

Yes the variables are fine. I just don't know how to get the data from the variables into the DataCardValue.

Thanks for you help 🐵

Could you please post the code that you have on that Default property of that mentioned DataCard with further explanation?

Thanks @Minor7th .

If(IsBlank(Parent.Default),varValuer6,Parent.Default)

I tried If(DataCardValue108_1.Text = varValuer6, Parent.Default, varValuer6) but got a circular reference error.

Just a silly thought, is the Form component initialized like with NewForm(Form1)?

What happens if you throw in a different text label inside the form and just display the variable?

Try selecting the IsBlank(Parent.Default) in the Default field of the DataCard to see what is the statement being evaluated to.

The form is an Edit form. Adding a text label will work but I have six separate DC's that can be changed by the user at any given time, and I'm trying to keep the solution as elegant as possible, but it is in my mind if that ends up as my only option . 👍
