Power App still trying to connect to old data source for one user after an update

I have an Power App that connects to an Excel File as it's data source. Last week the Excel file was changed, and after the edits I updated the Power App to connect to the new version, saved, and published.

For all but one of the app's users, everything transitioned just fine. For one, she keeps getting an error that it can't connect to the table (excel file), and gives a pointer to the old Excel file.

Why is this happening to one person? Surely it can't be a browser cache as it's the service that's connecting to the data source, not the browser.

I've tried refreshing the data in Power Apps. Tried reseeding the data. Tried exporting the app, importing under a different name, reconnecting to the source data, publish and share it with her and even that copy is trying to point to the old Excel file for her.

@TerryHughes Recommend to use SharePoint List instead if you can. Excel data source has a lot of limitations and if someone has it open in Excel Online, nobody can use the app for 8+ minutes or more, and that may be 8+ minutes only after the other person stopped using the data source first. It's also possible that there are issues if more than one person tries to use the Excel data source at the same time in any way, including from a Power Apps Canvas App. If you already experienced any of these issues then it may be a sign that it's better to use a SharePoint List instead. Your issue here could be possibly caused by this as well.

 

To resolve the issue with Excel:

Save and publish the app once or twice after making a small change - refreshing the data source both times before saving and publishing, if you can.

Now instruct the user to go to make.powerapps.com -> Dataverse -> Connections

Tell them to look for the Excel connection and delete it.

Now tell that user to clear all the cache and cookies of the browser.

Tell them to close the browser.

Now tell them to open the browser and sign in again.

Open the canvas app. They should be prompted to connect to Excel data source again.

The issue should be resolved now.

 

If the issue is not resolved, repeat all the steps above until "Tell them to close the browser" - after doing that, don't let the user open the Canvas app yet.

Now wait until everyone has closed all instances of Excel Online and that Canvas App, and that nobody else is using the Excel data source in any way.

Now wait at least 10 more minutes after you are sure everybody stopped using that data source.

Now tell them to open the browser and sign in again.

Open the canvas app. They should be prompted to connect to Excel data source again.

 

If the lock was still there or you got any error indicating the data source was in use, repeat all the steps above again and wait at least 20 minutes after you are sure everybody stopped using that data source before instructing them to open the Canvas app again.

 

If any of the above worked, you can go ahead with Excel, but I suggest transitioning to SharePoint List as soon as possible, if you can do it.

 

If she's opening it in a browser, maybe have her open the browser in incognito mode, and login then run app there. If it opens up and works fine now there's a good chance her browser is stuck somehow running a previous version of the app which would still in its code be looking for the old version.

Summer of Solutions | Week 4 Results | Winners will be posted on July 24th

We are excited to announce the Summer of Solutions Challenge!   This challenge is kicking off on Monday, June 17th and will run for (4) weeks.  The challenge is open to all Power Platform (Power Apps, Power Automate, Copilot Studio & Power Pages) community members. We invite you to participate in a quest to provide solutions in the Forums to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities.    Entry Period: This Challenge will consist of four weekly Entry Periods as follows (each an “Entry Period”)   - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 17, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 23, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on June 24, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on June 30, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 1, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 7, 2024 - 12:00 a.m. PT on July 8, 2024 – 11:59 p.m. PT on July 14, 2024   Entries will be eligible for the Entry Period in which they are received and will not carryover to subsequent weekly entry periods.  You must enter into each weekly Entry Period separately.   How to Enter: We invite you to participate in a quest to provide "Accepted Solutions" to as many questions as you can. Answers can be provided in all the communities. Users must provide a solution which can be an “Accepted Solution” in the Forums in all of the communities and there are no limits to the number of “Accepted Solutions” that a member can provide for entries in this challenge, but each entry must be substantially unique and different.    Winner Selection and Prizes: At the end of each week, we will list the top ten (10) Community users which will consist of: 5 Community Members & 5 Super Users and they will advance to the final drawing. We will post each week in the News & Announcements the top 10 Solution providers.  At the end of the challenge, we will add all of the top 10 weekly names and enter them into a random drawing.  Then we will randomly select ten (10) winners (5 Community Members & 5 Super Users) from among all eligible entrants received across all weekly Entry Periods to receive the prize listed below.
