Power apps drop down Items, value set with formula

Hi,

I want to be able to set a formula to assign the value, field used for items in the drop-down list.
The goal is to display the information to the user in the correct language that they use, but always upload the same information to the sharepoint list.
With setting the update property of the datacard. 
But it seems the Value property cannot be set by formula, Is it the case and is there a work around?

the component name : dropdown7

items = Table({name:"doe, Johb",ID:"111",Lang:"en"},{name:"Bob, Stoke",ID:"222",Lang:"fr"})

Value (property I want to make conditional with if statement) = name

datacard.update = dropdown7.selected.Id

What error do you receive ?

Can it be from the misspelling of datacard.update: dropdown7.selected.ID ?

Thank you for the response. You are right did a type here for the id, it should be ID. 

But my issue is that I want to be use formula to specify the Value field shown in the screenshot. But it, seems that this value can only be assigned with the menu option, and not a formula. 

I am looking to pass a table, to the items of a drop-down and select the Value that is displayed with a formula. But unfortunatly I cannot find where to input the formula for the Value field in my screenshot of the studio apps menu.

For now we will give a more generally applicable advice which might help you here..

If tempted to set a value from one Control directly from the OnChange property of another Control inline,   that is where you should try a different way.

For example, in an OnChange from one Control, setting directly the value of another Control should not be attempted.

So for example, do not attempt in general: OnChange from one place, SomeOtherControl.Property = "Some Value to Set"

In general, the assignment into a property directly is not a correct way to use PowerApps. That does not mean what you are trying to do is not possible - it just has to be done in another way. Here is another way to do it then:

Instead, Set the value of a Variable in the OnChange 

Set(_SomeVarNameOfYourChoice,"SomeValueOfYourChoice")

Then, on the Default property of the Control you wanted to previously attempt to change directly, you would want  to set that Default property to the following:

_SomeVarNameOfYourChoice

There is sometimes a bit more to it, but remember whenever you want to assign the control directly, try the above logic instead as a general guidance.
