Problem Selecting the Value of Combo Boxes

I have a form in my app (which is connected to a SharePoint data source), which has different sections for the user to fill out. Each section is comprised of Cards witch contain either combo boxes, rich text editors, or text input boxes. I'm attempting to add some functionality to the form which would allow users to create a copy of the form(certain fields won't be copied). 

My problem starts with the code I'm using to extract the value of these combo boxes.

    Defaults('MyTable'),
    {
        'Title': DataCardValue205_1.Text
    },

        'Department Number': cmbDept //Not sure on the syntax
    }
)

In this example, cmbDept is a combo box and I want to make sure it retains its current value when the form is copied as a new entry in my table. I've tried using 

cmbDept.Selected.Value

but I'm just getting an error that reads "Name isn't valid. 'Value' isn't recognized".

Does anyone have any suggestions?

The issue I'm facing is that cmbDept.Selected.DeptValue is returning a blank value, but that field in my form is populated as evidenced below:

@cwolfe01 , I requested in my first response that what is the Items property of combo box. Please share the same. Also please help me with the DefaultSelectedItems property of combo box. Also please confirm whether for this combo box the multi select is true or false?

The items property of cmbDept is Parent.AllowedValues. DefaultSelectedItems is set to [Parent.Default]. SelectMultiple is set to false.

@cwolfe01 This issue is related to DefaultSelectedItems property for sure. I need to know that what is the data type of column department in your data source?

This appears to have worked. I did make a slight adjustment to your code as AllowedValues was not recognized for some reason. The below code resolved my problem. Thank you!
