Hi,
I am building a powerapps to be used in logging hours as expense to project. I would like to have project sorting based on account (customer) selected. I tried doing it with the new depends on function but to no avail.
All help is much appreciated.
Current filter is: "Filter(Projects, Customer = DataCardValue6.Selected.Value)" DataCardValue6 being the dropdown menu for account. Both dropdowns fetch data from dynamics in form edit mode.

Hi @kingslowpoke ,
I need to know the formula that you use in Account drop down's Items?
If you set datacardvalue6's Items: Account
Then please set the project's Items:
Filter(Projects, Customer = DataCardValue6.Selected)
But if the set datacardvalue6's Items is not Account, the formula is different. So I need the settings in details.
To compare data type, using collection is a good way.
Save value in collection, you could see its structure.
Only the data that you want to display is the same structure with the data source, it will display correctly.
Best regards,
You appear to have it coded correctly. I have replicated this with a similar scenario of an Account form. There, I made the Primary Contact lookup filter based on the Parent Account, which was set in another drop-down on the form.
In my example, I have
I even tried to paste the standalone Combo box into the data card, but it stopped behaving properly. This seems to be a bug...
The resolution is to update the source to include the disambiguation operator.
Filter([@Contacts],'Company Name' = DataCardValue4.Selected) for my example.
Filter([@Projects], Customer = DataCardValue6.Selected.Value), for your example.
However, this may introduce some unintended consequences. While it does maintain the Parent Data Card's properties, it does appear to automatically set the value when the dependent lookup it set. You'll need to tweak the other properties, in order to control the intended behavior (such as clearing the Project lookup entirely, when the Customer value is changed).
Hi and thank you for your message.
Problem however still exists.
I updated the formula to the following: Filter([@Projects], Customer = DataCardValue6.Selected.Value), but when account is not selected, it does not appear empty (shows the normal project list), and selecting account does not have any effect to that.
I have tried refreshing the app, but that did not help. I have hard time understanding the ".Value" part of the formula does it just return the selected value, or does it have some another function?
EDIT: I manually updated the whole formula, and now the dropdown is empty, but selecting account doesn't bring up any values either.
Hi @kingslowpoke ,
Do you want to filter a list based on the selection of a drop down?
Could you tell me
1)the data type of Customer field?
2)the data type of account field?
3)the drop down's Items?
You need to make sure"Customer" field and "DataCardValue6.Selected.Value" being the same data type.
Best regards,

This is correct.
Account is Lookup inside Expenses related to Account entity. Inside Account entity Data type is unique identifier.
Customer is lookup inside Projects that is related to same Account unique identifier.
For the dropdown items: Account items are customer names and projects are project names.
Slight correction on what I recommended: Filter([@Projects], Customer = DataCardValue6.Selected
As you pointed out, the value property isn't applicable here. Not sure I made bad copy pasta with your original or what - sorry.
Also, you can set the Project data card to be hidden if/when Account value is blank, and even reset it.
@GarethPrisk
Hi,
I tried these, but the project field still stays empty unfortunately. Is there an easy way to check which values it is trying to compare?
Project now: Filter([@Projects], Customer = DataCardValue3.Selected (DataCardValue3 is the new account card)
Account: OnChange: Reset(DataCardValue7)
Project Visible: !IsBlank(DataCardValue3.Selected)
