Problem with saving Gallery Textbox data into Data verse using Collection.

Request for help,

My student records Canvas application includes data retrieving from Student records Dataverse Table 1BE, Table 2BSC, Table 3ME and presenting it on form (Teachers) based on Gallery (Course List) filter.

Filter only shows student records with Physics and Mathematics grade for selected Course in Course List listbox.(Bachelor or Masters )

I am using Gallery to present Student Name, Physics, Mathematics fields (fetched from Table 1BE, Table 2BSC, Table 3ME ) on Teachers form.

I am providing Comments text box for teacher to add comment text for each student row record.

To save each row of data, I have SAVE icon in Gallery so each row shows save icon at the right-hand end of each row.

Total number of rows for Student Records in Gallery may vary on Teachers Form for each Course List item depending on filter criteria so Teachers Form may show one row or 10 rows in gallery satisfying filter criteria.

Example: User selected Bachelor Courses from Listbox so all Bachelor courses students records will be displayed on form by pulling data from tables (1BE and 2BSC) in two galleries which include only bachelor student records.

Teacher will click save button to save Student Name, Physics grade, Mathematics grade and multiline text Comments into respective table (Table 1BE, Table 2BSC, Table 3ME).

For saving student records with comments from Teachers form, I am using COLLECTION to collect physics, Mathematics and comments with following script. However, my script is not saving each student record correctly.

Example: On Save icon click, Rob row is saved successfully in Table 1BE however Jack row is not saved when I click save icon for Jack row.

Similarly, Rahul is saved in Table 2BSC however Anita row is not saved.

My collection is upended every time with new rows when teacher click on save icon button on each rows. So everytime two rows are added into collection (Rob and Jack) when teacher clicks save icon of Rob row.

Please view attached screenshots.

Request 1:

May you suggest what is wrong with my script OR you may suggest me alternative solution.

I want to save/update each student row in respective data table when teacher click on save icon.

[Code used for request 1]

Request 2:

I also want to allow teacher to manually add additional row below the student record and teacher can manually add student name, student grades and comments and save the manually added row in Table 1BE or Table 2BSC.

Request 3:

I wish to retrieve data and show updated information from respective tables (1BE, 2BSC, 3ME) depending on user selected course from Course list box whenever teacher re-login to application and click on Bachelor course or Master course on vertical gallery.

)

);

//Save collection to data table

)
);

 I dont have code for Request 2 and Request 3.

Any ideas / suggestions will be appreciated for Request 1, Request 2 and Request 3.

hey @BradAugustene

please try this for request 1:

// Adjusted Save action for each row's save icon
Patch(
    Tabl_1BE, // Adjust table name as necessary
    If(
        IsBlank(LookUp(Tabl_1BE, Unique_ID = ThisItem.Unique_ID)),
        Defaults(Tabl_1BE),
        LookUp(Tabl_1BE, Unique_ID = ThisItem.Unique_ID)
    ),
    {
        Std_Name: ThisItem.BE_Std_Name,
        Std_Physics: ThisItem.BE_Std_Physics,
        Std_Maths: ThisItem.BE_Std_Maths,
        Std_Course: ThisItem.Std_Course,
        Teacher_Comments: ThisItem.Std_Teacher_Comments
    }
);

Request 2: Manually Adding Additional Rows

To allow teachers to manually add additional rows, you'll need to implement functionality that enables adding new, empty records to the gallery for editing.

Suggested Solution:

  1. Add Button Functionality: Implement a button outside the gallery that, when clicked, adds an empty item to your collection or data source. This can be achieved by using the Collect or Patch function to add a new, empty record.
  2. Editable Gallery: Ensure your gallery's text inputs (for student name, grades, and comments) are editable and bound to the collection or data source. When the teacher fills these out and hits the save icon for the new row, use the Patch function as described in Request 1 to save the new record.
