Quick Create form not showing up from subgrid

I have allowed quick create form for one of my entities. I have added a subgrid of that entity in its parent entity. When I try add a record, it is supposed to show quick create form but it redirects to new form. I have also added the look up of parent entity as business required but still modesl not work.

For anyone else that runs into this behavior, the resolution was to ensure the entity and form you are enabling for quick create are added as components in App Designer.

This fixed it for me.

I missed on adding the Entity that needs to be shown as quick create in the app designer. Adding that solved the issue.

Hi @summitb ,

Could you please share a bit more about your scenario?

Do you want to display the Quick Create form when your add a record rather than redirect to the New Form?

Have you configured the form order for the Quick Create Form in your Entity or set the Quick Create Form as the default form of your Entity?

Actually, a form could be displayed as a Default form of a Entity is based on the Form Order you configured within your CDS Entity.

Please check the following article for more details:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/model-driven-apps/create-design-forms#why-isnt-my-f...

You can enable custom activity entities to support quick create forms, and you can create quick create forms for those entities. However, the quick create form for custom activity entities will not be used when people select Create on the navigation bar. These quick create forms can be used only when people add a new record for a sub-grid that displays that specific custom activity entity.

More details about creating a Quick Create Form for a Entity, please check the following article:

https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/model-driven-apps/create-edit-quick-create-forms

Please check if you clicked the "+New" button  from a lookup or sub-grid to create a record instead of clicking the "Create" button within the navigation bar.

If the issue still exists, please consider re-create your Model-Driven app, then re-create a new Quick Create Form based on above article, and add it within a Entity via a lookup or sub-grid, check if the issue is solved.

Thanks for posting in the community @summitb - can you review the above reply and update the thread if it was helpful?

Thank you,

@Anonymous

Hi @summitb, did you ever get this resolved?  I'm seeing the same behavior.

@Anonymous, I have a custom entity, Allow Quick Create is enabled.  There is only one Quick Create form.  Hitting "+ New Custom Entity" on a subgrid still opens the main form.

Any ideas?

For anyone else that runs into this behavior, the resolution was to ensure the entity and form you are enabling for quick create are added as components in App Designer.

This fixed it for me.

I missed on adding the Entity that needs to be shown as quick create in the app designer. Adding that solved the issue.

Nope. All Tables are in app designer; form is there; lookup to parent is business required; published solution; published app (several times).

Hi. Were you able to resolve this one?

this  resolved my issue thanks

What You Were Likely Missing

The Setup

  1. In the Solution create table Parent
  2. In the Solution create table Child -> add Lookup to table Parent
  3. In table Child -> Properties -> Advanced Properties -> Leverage Quick-Create Form If Available
  4. In table Child -> Forms -> New Quick-Create Form and create form
    1. New Quick-Create Form will be greyed out if step 3 not completed
  5. In table Parent -> Main Form -> Components -> Sub-grid -> Related Records and select table Child
    1. This is using the Lookup to table Parent from step 2
  6. In the App -> Edit -> New Page -> select Dataverse table -> select Parent table -> add to navigation is true
  7. The Step I Missed In the App -> Edit -> New Page -> select Dataverse table -> select Child table -> add to navigation is true/false

Explanation

  • Why it worked the first time: The first time I setup a quick create form I wanted the table Child in my App navigation so I did step 7 unintentionally and everything worked perfectly. I had done everything correctly without knowing it.
  • Why it didn't work the second time: The second time I setup a quick create form I DID NOT want table Child in my App navigation so I skipped step 7 intentionally. The quick create form did not work when I selected New Child from the sub-grid.
    • Why did I think it would work? When you add a Child sub-grid to the Parent form it shows up in the application whether or not you did step 7 and it works! But it navigates to the Child main form whenever you select New Child from the sub-grid.

Solution

As there are nearly 18000 views of this article there is clearly a user experience gap.

  1. As of this writing the documentation https://learn.microsoft.com/en-us/power-apps/maker/model-driven-apps/create-edit-quick-create-forms only mentions in a Note: The table must be added to your app
    1. This explanation could be expanded to identify how critical this step
    2. Or even better add this as a numbered step in the creation guide
  2. The little info bubble beside Leverage Quick-Create Form If Available should include: Quick create forms will not show unless this table is added as a new Page to the App

If this helped please thumbs up or mark as best solution.
