Real world experience using LISTS

Hello,

I have built a power app for Timesheets, to record our companies daily workloads.

Its a pretty simple timesheet writing to a SharePoint list.

The List uses 18 columns that records approx 14 entries depending on selection on the timesheet.

Our finance dept are suggesting approx. 5000 entries per month (Could be 70k individual pieces of data)

We are a non profit, so trying to use standard connectors. Ideally we would have used Data verse, but cost may write that off. 

What is the real world experience of users recording this amount of data to a SharePoint list, particularly when data gets large?

The app also recalls on a calendar to a gallery.

The app is in testing with 10 users and is working well, however approx. 120 people will use it in full release.

Hello, @CraigRooney, Keep in mind that SharePoint is not a Database and wasn't meant for big data operations. With that being said, your application use case and the amount of users cause you an issue to use SharePoint.

Im well aware its not a database. 

With that being said, your application use case and the amount of users cause you an issue to use SharePoint.

Sorry, not following, in your experience, you would expect it to be an issue, or not?

@CraigRooney, it will not be an issue, a SharePoint list can have up to 30 million items and a library can have up to 30 million files and folders.

That being said, be sure to plan to build your app in a manner it is delegable, because while it /can/ hold 30 million items it will only work as well past 2k as you have set it up to be.

I've got an app with a document library that has upwards of 100k records an it's working fine. You just need to make sure you utilize the indexes in the list and add indexes of columns that you would use / filter by the most and it should be ok. It's not going to blaze once you get a bunch of records in it but it will work ok for a low transaction use.
