Reset... Not supporting DropDown

Hi

I can activate Reset with Button.Pressed.

e.g.: TextInput1 : Reset = Button1.Pressed (I insert a Button1)

However, I failed to reset with DropDown (OnChange, OnSelect), for TextInput.

(It was quoted to support as in the LEARN!)

Any idea?

For a control to have its value reset to its default, the Reset property must change to a true value (and "change" is important here). The Pressed property of a button is an ideal way to accomplish it - it's a "pulse" property that momentarily changes from false to true and then to false again when the button is pressed. But you can accomplish the same with a dropdown in a few ways:

By using the dropdown data source directly: if you define the Items property of your dropdown (e.g., named DropdownToReset) as follows:

Table({Text:"Keep values", Prop:false},{Text:"Reset to default", Prop:true})

Then you can set the Reset property of any control that you want reset (e.g., a Text Input) based on the drop down to

DropdownToReest.Selected.Prop

So if your dropdown is showing "Keep values", and you change the values of the other controls, once you move the dropdown to the "Reset to default" option then all values will reset to default. Notice that at that point you can continue changing the controls. You can type more text in the text input, for example. If you want to change the values back to the default, you'll need to first select the "Keep values" option on the dropdown, then select "Reset to default" again. As I mentioned before, the value of the Reset property needs to change to true for the reset operation to happen.

By using a context variable: if you want the items to be reset for all changes to the dropdown (i.e., not only when it moves to a specific value), then you can simulate the pulse behavior using a context variable. On the OnChange formula of the dropdown, you would make two calls to UpdateContext for the same variable:

UpdateContext({ resetVar: true }); UpdateContext({ resetVar: false })

And on the controls, you would set the Reset property to

resetVar

Hi,

Could you provide a little more detail on what it is you are trying to do? Are you trying to activate Reset for a control when a dropdown's OnChange or OnSelect events are triggered?

Thanks,

Melanie

Hi Carlos:

Thanks for much for reminding me to use the most useful syntax: UpdateContext({..}). Useful and straight forward.

I used to try Nav(..............{...: true}) but not succesful then only realized UpdateContext can be used during OnVisible when travelling from another screen. As I am using New/Edit/Save everything on the same screen, this is much more easier.

Dropdown is also a good alternative and your guidance helps me to always remember: invoke TRUE or FALSE whenever I want something .... .

Once again, appreciate very much. My Apps is 98% left only:

1. Printing features support

2. Sharing to different organization.

I believe I have a similar requirement to this.

I have a dropdown control that I am using to show/hide different forms on a screen in a tab-like manner. I have set the default of the dropdown to show "Basic Details" and this works fine when I fire up the app for the first time, however, if I select a different value in the dropdown to access a different form, then exit the form, when I open the form again, either in the new form or the viewing an existing form, the dropdown control remembers the selection from the last time the screen was used. I want it to resert back to the default "Basic Details".

I have tried adding TabSelector.Selected.Value="Basic Details" to my formula for the buttons that close the form, and attempted to pass a variable from one screen to another to change the reset value from false to true. So my "New" button sets reset value to true and the close buttons set it to false.

This doesn't seem to be working though.
