Response from Flow to powerapps returns Boolean (True/False)

Hi,

I am trying to get a text from flow to powerApps using UpdateContext({FromFlow:PowerAppsAlone.Run(JSON(CollProductsAndTopics.Id))}) - and then i am using this "FromFlow" variable in my control, however it returns only true or false instead of the actual text.

What am i doing wrong here, i clear my browser cache as well as i checked my flow variable type which is string type.

Circling back on this.  The response is actually sent back as an object which contains the properties you defined.  If you try to save that response directly using UpdateContext() it will fail.  If you use Set(VariableName, run) it will save the object and you can then access the property.  If you want to use UpdateContext() make sure you append the property name of the text value you are returning to the run() something like this.

UpdateContext({returnValue:Respond2PowerAppsFlow.Run().return})

Notice the '.return'.  This is what isolates the text value so you can add it to a string variable using UpdateContext

If you use Set(returnValue, run()) you can access the value using

returnValue.return

Hi !

I had this issue and manage to solve it :

What I've done wrong:

I've created an empty flow

I've added a button than calls the flow and stored the variable of my flow

I've changed my flow

And I think that was the issue, because even if I changed the flow, it hasn't been updated in PowerApps (WHY??)

Even if my flow should return something, when writing myflowname.run().NOTHING_PROPOSED

Solution :

I have deleted the button and recreated it : Insert > Button > PowerAutomate > Click on your flow name.

It should delete all your code in 'OnSelect' and write "yourFlowName.run(" DON'T CTRL Z. Complete your code by pasting your working code:

I.E  : {myVarInPowerapps : myFlowName.Run(arg1; arg2).TheFlowOutputValueYouWant}

Then it worked (for me) !!

When you attach a flow to Power Apps it takes a snapshot of the input and output parameters.  If you make further changes to the flow Power Apps won't pick them up until you remove the flow and re-add it.  You don't need to delete the whole button, just remove the flow and then re-attach it.

What has worked for me in solving this is making sure that I have gone into the Advanced Options in the Response and added a Response Body JSON Schema by generating from sample which I copy and paste from testing the flow.

Stephanie, thank you for this message!
I was trying hard, to solve my problem, that i expected to get my collection filled by a automate flow, and just got back Boolean:true. I added the Json Schema like you described, and now it works!  thank you very much!!

Hi,
you need to use the schema in respond.
then you will get the correct responds into powerapps

This problem only occurs if you use upper case letters in the name of the return variable in the flow.

Your variable name here is "ID" so this could be the problem. Try using "id".

I noticed this because power apps was always converting the variable name to lower case letters, when receiving them from a flow.

This is the solution!
