Return Unique Data in Gallery

I have Gallery that I am filtering with a Dropdown (LocIdDD).

LocIdDD = Distinct(Filter(AssetListCollection, Park=LocPrkDD.SelectedText.Value),LocID)

Gallery = Filter(AssetListCollection, LocID=LocIdDD.Selected.Result)

The above returns all the desired data in the Gallery, however it returns identifical data multiple times where the Location (LocID) appears more than once on in the Collection.

How do I write a formula that only returns the desired data in the Gallery once, regardless of how many times it appears in the Collection?

Hi @Phineas ,

Wrap your Gallery Items in FirstN( . . . . .  .    ,1) and it will show the first matching record.

Hi @Phineas ,

The following will return one field - Result for all the unique LocID values

Distinct(
   Filter(
      AssetListCollection,
      LocID=LocIdDD.Selected.Result
   ),
   LocID
)

I am not getting the results I desire when I make the following the filter:

Distinct(Filter(AssetListCollection, LocID=LocIdDD.Selected.Result),LocID)

However, if I leave it at the below I get the data I want, based on the DD desired, however I get multiple Galleries of the same data, rather one Gallery of the data desired.

AssetListCollection

@Phineas ,

Exactly what results do you desire?

Rather than have a Location list and an Asset List I have created a single list that shows each Asset once, however multiple Assets may be at a single Location. I have Location detail and Asset detail Galleries. In the Location Gallery even if the Location is on the source list only once, I only want to see the Location data once in the Gallery.

I am using a Collection.

The below returns the specific Location detail I desire, but it returns it as many times as the Location appears in the LocationID column. Sir, how to I make the below return the data I desire ONLY ONCE in the Gallery?

Filter(AssetListCollection, LocID=LocIdDD.Selected.Result)

Hi @Phineas

You could try GroupBy() to group your data by location.  ref: https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/powerapps/maker/canvas-apps/functions/function-groupby#:~:text=The%... Annotation 2020-06-06 081146.jpg

@Phineas ,

Back in my time zone now - exactly what @Drrickryp has said - you would do this with GroupBy

GroupBy(
   Filter(
      AssetListCollection,
      LocID=LocIdDD.Selected.Result
   ),
   "LocID",
   "OtherData"
)

Your data would consist of two basic elements

  • A Text field LocID
  • A Record called OtherData (call it whatever you want) with the remaining fields.

If you want to display all the remaining fields, you would need to do a "nested" gallery with the Items

ThisItem.OtherData

The other fields are then ThisItem.FieldName (actual field name)

1. I am dealing with Locations (and Location details) and Assets (and Asset details), on the same list.

2. Rather than having a separate Location list, where the Location with its site specific details would only appear once as a single line item, I have a combined list where the Assets are the primary concern; meaning the Location site detail will appear on the same line as the Asset details for as many Assets are at a Location; this could be one or 20 lines.

I need a filter that will take that into account and ONLY return the Location detail once to the Location Gallery, no matter how many time the Location appears as a line item in the list. The GroupBy formula return every instance of the Location detail information, rather than a single instance of the Location detail information.

@Phineas ,

So I understand exactly what you mean, are you asking for a list of assets in a gallery with the location only appearing on the first one and the rest of the assets having a blank location?

I maybe be misunderstanding how a Gallery works.

Yes, similar to if I created a Form in view only mode. When I chose the LocID in the DD I only want the Gallery to display once the fields I have chosen from the Collection (data source). Currently, the Gallery is displaying the Location data as many times as the LocID appears on the list. Is there a Distinct type of formula that I can run on the Gallery that is accessing data from a Collection; similar to the way I can filter a DD to only show one instance of every park (for example), in the Park DD and not multiple instances of the same Park name.
