Good morning,
I have a power app form that is pulling in data from my "Roles" list into my "Access Request" form.
There are only three fields being populated manually.
1. LU_Role Name
2. Requestor
3. Justification
All other fields are populated based on the key field LU_Role Name
I am using this expression in the OnChange property of the LU_Role Name control to update the fields on the right side of the form.
The issue is that only the Requestor and Justification field is being added to the SP List "Access Requests"
I need all fields on this form to be included.
The logic for the "Submit" button is as follows -
What am I doing wrong?
Solved! Go to Solution.
Let's cross the better way in a little bit. First, what is the Update property of the DataCard for the LU_Role Name?
Okay good. Now I have a clearer picture of things. I'm reading back through the thread to fill in the gaps. Sorry I see you actually showed that Update property in message #13.
One final question - what type of column is LU_Role Name in your list? Is it a Choice column or a Lookup column?
Its a lookup to the Roles List.
Excellent!
Okay, so the properties for LU_Role_Name_datacard should be:
Default: ThisItem.'LU_Role Name'
Update: DataCardValue4.Selected
The properties on the DataCardValue4 dropdown should be:
Default: Dropdown1_1.Selected.Value
Items: Choices([@'Access Requests'].'LU_Role Name')
As for the control outside of the form...you really don't need it. You can incorporate this directly into the form. It doesn't make a difference if you keep it, but it is kind of redundant as you have a dropdown in the form to choose the LU_Role Name and a Dropdown outside of the for to do the same.
The OnChange action formula in Dropdown1_1 is not needed.
You can actually move the Search textbox into your form (or leave it outside if you want) and still change the values in the dropdown in the form.
Ultimately, you could change out the Dropdown in the Form with a Combobox and allow searching. This way the search will occur in the combobox instead of a separate control.
Let's get the above properties adjusted first and see where things are.
Ok, thank you.
I will make the changes and give you feedback and go from there.
Thanks again Randy, This has me very stressed out and am hoping to have this resolved today so I dont have to work over the holiday weeken 🙂
No problem. Don't stress over it...I'll help you along the way. It may be some back and forth to get to the results, but they are all attainable.
Couple of things to keep in mind with working with forms.
1) They are always Edit Forms! No such thing as a New Form...it is just a mode that causes the form to automatically create an underlying blank record. In fact, once you get used to forms, you'll never directly have a form in New mode again (as you cannot access the underlying new record in the form)
2) Keep the Datacard Default property intact. It will be ThisItem.somefield. That should remain. Altering that default without knowing what the change will do will break some functionality of the form.
3) The Update property of the Datacard is the ONLY important property when it comes to submitting the data. When you submit, it will submit whatever value comes from the Update properties.
4) Data flows through a column like this: Default -> Control Default -> Control Output -> Update property. What you do between the Default and the Update of the datacard is up to you. But you want to maintain that flow of data. You could even shortcut it and have the Update property be the Default property value. Nothing would ever change, but it would work. So, just remember that flow.
Hopefully some of the above tips will help.
See how it goes and let's see if we can nail this before the holiday!
So this search functionality is not needed?
I am not sure if you understand the level of gratitude I feel right now.
Your help and tips are very valuable to me as I continue to learn about Power Apps and Power Automate.
Thank you.
Well again, happy to help! I want everyone to have great experiences in PowerApps.
As for the Search, you can keep it if you like the separation of the Search term in a Text Input control, or you cen incorporate it into a Combobox.
A plus for a Combobox is that it can search by itself. A minus would be that a combobox works a little differently, but it is just that it is record based, where a dropdown is text based (specifically when referring to setting default items).
Either way is good. I would consider though NOT having two dropdowns that have the same values and purpose...that might be a little confusing to users.
