Search Bar Issue

Building an app to keep track of what we have in a store room using one of the power apps templates linking to a sharepoint list. On the main page it shows all of the items that are in the store, each showing 3 fields of information, the job number at the top, then the device information then the owners name. At the top of the page there is a search bar but it only searches for what’s in the first field, we need this set up to search through the other 2 fields too, any ideas how this can be set up?

What id the current formula you are using?

Generally, Search follows this structure:

Search( Datasource, SearchInput.Text, "Column1","Column2","Column3" )

Based on the issue that you mentioned, do you want to search all the three fields in the search bar?

Combine that with your description, you want to search job number, device information, and the owners name in the same search bar. Absolutely this idea can be implemented.

The search function is always the first thing that comes to mind When it comes to the search function of the search bar! Thanks for @eka24 that he has posted a correct Search formula. As an alternative solution, you can also try to use StarsWith. As we know, when creating an app from your data, a gallery will be filtered by a default formula as below:

If you use the default formula to search, yes, you will always search one column from your SP list. On this premise, you just need to make a few tweaks to the default formula. I have a test on my side, you can take a try as below.

Filter(YourListName, StartsWith(Column1, TextInput1.Text )
     || StartsWith(Column2, TextInput1.Text )  
     || StartsWith(Column3, TextInput1.Text )
  )

Note:

• StartsWith function only used to test whether one text string begins with another. If you want to filter the items by entering any letter in a word, the Search function works instead.
• StartsWith( Text, StartText ) In this formula, the column is a Text type by default. If you have any other types, please make them matched.

If the formula above can’t solve your problem, please post your formula.

Hi,

I tried to follow your steps/formula & it clears all my data.

This is the formula I'm using right now where it only searches "Title" but we want it to search both "title" & "ID number": 

SortByColumns(Filter([@'Intake Prep Vetting List'], StartsWith(Title, TextSearchBox1_1.Text)), "Title", If(SortDescending1, Descending, Ascending))

Any ideas?

I attached a screenshot to show you where I'm trying to edit the search box, maybe I'm editing the wrong place. Please let me know 🙂

If you want to search both "title" & "ID number", please modify your formula as below.

SortByColumns(Filter([@'Intake Prep Vetting List'], StartsWith(Title, TextSearchBox1_1.Text)|| StartsWith( "ID Number", TextSearchBox1_1.Text)),If(SortDescending1, Descending, Ascending))
