Selecting item in drop down list while loading PowerApps

Hi Friends,

I am not getting any solution to implement below logic. It would be great if any one could help me on this and provide me few implementation pointers.

I have one PowerApp and having 3 screens(Browse, Details, Edit). I am fetching recrods from transaction table and showing in browse and Details screen. But my Edit screen has little twick as here I am using master table to show all text values where my transaction table is carrying ID values.

My When I am choosing text values in drop down list in edit screen and submitting record then it is updating that record successfully. I dont have any issue on this. But only one problem, when I am navigating from Details to Edit screen then I should load selected item ID's value in drop down instead of first record(default). But I am not able to load exact selected ID value in drop down.

I think, I am missing some property setting to load and select appropriate value from drop down while navigating and redering Edit Screen. But not sure which one.

Please help me on this and let me know if you need any more information.

Hi Sidhartha75,

About this sentence “But only one problem, when I am navigating from Details to Edit screen then I should load selected item ID's value in drop down instead of first record(default). But I am not able to load exact selected ID value in drop down”, my understanding is that when navigating from Details screen to Edit screen, you could edit the selected record on the Edit screen.

But what do you mean by “load selected item ID’s value in drop down instead of first record(default)”? What configuration have you done here?

I guess you should have a Drop down control on you app, could you provide more details about it?

Best regards,
Mabel Mao

@Mabel , Thanks for your response. Sorry I forget to provide details in my first post. Below are the schema design details@@

Attributes of Transaction Table(Assets) : (AssetID, SiteID, Value)

Attributes of Master Table(Sites) : SiteID, SiteName

In PowerApps, i am fetching all records from Assets table and showing in Browse and Details screen. In my Edit Screen has two attribute to edit(Site and Value). I am using Drop down for Site Attribute and filling all SiteNames from Sites Table. Value is a simple text box to pass input numeric values.

When I am navigaring to Edit screen from Detail sreen after selecting one record from browse sceen then Edit page is loading drop down with all SiteNames and showing Default Name(First Name) in drop down. If My selected record has SiteID 4, even though my dorp down shows me first recods when navigating edit screen to edit the record.

I think above information help to summarize my points. Please let me know if you still have problem in understanding my problems statements.

Here I am providing more screen shots of 3 screens in my PowerApps:

Display Screen where it points to Assets table having all ID values.

AssetDisplay.JPG

This is details screen which will pick the record from the Asset Dataset and show all values for the record:

AssetsDetailsScreen.JPG

When i am tring to edit this record to update few values then I should see these values in the edit screen instead of default values: For example, for this selected record has SiteID 6 which is "Marsh Mills STW Plympton RTU". But while I am loading/navigating to Edit Screen then my SiteID DropDown is showing me value "Callington STW Callington RTFS" which is default First record of Site Table instead of 6th record.

Hi Sidhartha75,

I have something similar with your scenario when my users are editing items on an order. The way I'm achieving this is by following:

1. Setting the default property of the drop down to a variable. For example: dUnit

2. On the Details screen - on the edit button set the OnSelect property to Navigate(Edit, {dUnit: your_selected_unit_id}) - this should set the default value of the drop down to the selected record you want to edit.

Hope this helps 🙂

Hi MelindaK,

I tried below options but did not work for me. It would be great if you could check below setting and let me know if I missed anything.

OnSelect Property of Edit Button in Details Screen: Navigate(EditSceen1, {SiteName: SiteID})

Defult Property of Drop down in EditScreen1: SiteName instead of Parent.Default.

Both pages are geeing error icon and not able to navigate while clicking edit button in detail page.

That sounds right to me Smiley Happy

What is the error you are getting? (hover over the error icon)

I susspect it has to do with the value you are trying to set as default.

For example, if your drop down value is a string (name) and you are trying to set the default to an integer (ID) it will error. If that's the case you can use filter to get the siteName based on the ID.

In Details Screen getting this error message when hover: Invalid argument type(Record): Expecting a text value instead.

In Edit screen geeting this error: Invalid Name

I think that refers to your SiteID being a record not a text value.

As you have shown in your second screenshot, the value 6 is it in a text box? If yes, that's the value you need to pass to your filter function.

 Screenshot_2.png

Try in the navigate command to filter the name of that site based on the ID:

Navigate(EditSceen1, {SiteName: Filter(Your_Source, SiteID = TextBox_Name.Text).SiteName})

Now I am getting informations error message after change the OnSelect property with this: Navigate(EditScreen1, {SiteName: Filter('[tst].[Site]', SiteID = DataCardValue21.Text).SiteName})

Error Message: The value being compared has mismatch type(left is number and right is text). Please check logical syntatical error and use paranthesis to provide explicit logical grouping.

Am I missed anything?
