Send data back to PowerAPPs from Flow not working

Hi All,

Sending back data flow flow to powerapps seems not to work. When I use 'Respond to PowerApps' in flow, setting an output to text I cannot retrieve this value in PowerApps. It should be available as a property like in MyData.SomeValue but it is not.

In PowerApps I have a button which triggers Flow. Flow should return some data, in this case the name of a file.

It seems there is something wrong with the connection to Flow because the link with the button is not there (see screenshot below)Flow not associated to buttonFlow not associated to button

BUT I also noticed that when I use the Notification function from Flow to PowerApps this also does not work Smiley Sad So my conclusion is that the communication from Flow to PowerApps is somehow broken. The otherway around does work strangely enough.

My question: Does anybody know how to fix this?

Thanks in advance,

Bart

Hi @v-xida-msft Kris,

Clearing browser cache (Chrome) did not help. I recreated the app as a new one and now it does work and the button stays connected to the selected Flow (I didn't change anything to the Flow, I used it again). As this was only a small sample app for my own education it was not a big deal but what worries me if this happens in a real production situation. There seems simply no other solution than to start al over again Smiley Sad !

If anybody has some insight in the underlying mechanism and beter yet, a way to solve this I would love to hear it.

Best regards,

Bart

Hi @BartSchaap,

Can you clarify if the button was already connected to the flow in the past? If so, have you revised the flow?

Hi @mr-dang

As a matter of fact it was. I tried to select it again as shown in the screenshot, I get the yellow message indication I should complete the function. When I do, provided I do not want to retrieve something back from Flow (!), it does work BUT in the properties for the button the Flow seems not to be connected to the button.

And like I said getting something back from Flow does not work in my case.

Is it possible that the following perhaps triggered this confusion in PowerApps: by mistaken I first made the Flow in the wrong environment (I have 2). I exported it from the wrong one and imported it the correct one. Then I deleted the Flow in the wrong environment. If so how can I solve this confusion?

Hi @BartSchaap,

I have made a test on my side, and don't have the issue that you mentioned. The screenshot as below:

Flow's configuration:1.JPG

App's configuration:2.JPG

3.JPG

I think the assumption that you provided could not cause the issue that you mentioned. In default, when you create a flow connection within your app, it would look up or reference the flows created within the same environment with your PowerApps app.

Based on the screenshot that you provided, it seems to tell that the Button 2 control is not connected to your flow. Please make sure that the Button2 control has been connected to your flow.

If the issue still exists, please consider take a try to re-create your app, then add a flow connection within it, check if the issue is solved.

In addition, please also make sure that the environment your app belongs to is the same as that your flow belongs to.

More details about starting a flow in an app, please check the following article:

Hi @v-xida-msft Kris,

Thanks a lot for taking the trouble to test my case. The thing is, the link between the button and Flow does not persist. In my test app I take a picture using the camera, input a file name in the app and by pressing a button Flow is activated which stores the file in SharePoint. This all works (!) but as shown is my screenshot, still PowerApps thinks there is no connection between the button "Upload to SharePoint" (button2) and de Flow named 'Upload a file to SharePoint'. Also trying to (re)create the the link does not stick. Funny enough this still works but when I want de link to the file back in PowerApps this does not work. I suspect that the fact that the connection between the button and Flow is not in order is the reason for this. But I cannot fix this :(. Is ther somehow a way to force PowerApps to recreate it? Or is there perhaps a file where this link is maintained?

Hi @BartSchaap,

I have made a test on my side, and don't have the issue that you mentioned.

I agree with your thought almost, I think this issue is related to the connection between the Button and your flow.

Please take a try to clear cache of your browser, then try your app again, check if the issue is solved.

If the issue still exists, please consider take a try to re-create your flow and your app, then create a connection from your app to your flow, check if the issue is solved.

Note: Check if the connection to your flow is bound to the Button control ("Upload to SharePoint")

Kris
