Hello,
I have a canvas app which my customer uses to run their business. We recently added functionality in which customer can create an product. Everything works except the picture. I've tried every which way to enable the viewing of photos from the list item in SharePoint that I can. Two things work; storing the image data in a multi-line field, and having the picture uploaded into a Hyperlink/Picture column formatted as picture. The first solution drags down the performance of the app. Even with 3 line items, that picture data made the list crawl. This is an unacceptable solution. The second works perfectly, however it can not be updated by HTTP POST or Power Automate. Manual change in the SharePoint list each time the picture for the product needs to change is also unacceptable.
I've recently read up on the new method which is the image column type in SharePoint. After having watched a couple videos, and read all of the release notes I'm very excited. I implemented the column in my list. Created a new connection to the list in my PowerApp, and the images never load. I'm using the same formatting, same type exactly. I'm dumbfounded. I've seen folks create new apps not to have it work, some that do, and I'm wondering if there's anything I can do about it. Please help, I've spent hours reading and watching videos, tried every method, no reach no working solution. Would really love it if this fully released feature worked.
Also just to note, I've waited, refresh the data source, recreated the gallery, added a different image control, recreated the data connection to the sharepoint list. I'm out of ideas....
Hi @AdmiralCloc ,
The new Image column is no better than the hyperlink/picture and presents as read-only in Power Apps and can only be edited in the original SharePoint edit form (so if you have an integrated form, it is of no use to you). I do a lot of picture storing and viewing and use a SharePoint Library with the ID of the "parent" in a numeric field in the Library item. I have a blog on this and other options available. If you use the '{Thumbnail}'.Large option for the image, they resolve very quickly.
Please click Accept as solution if my post helped you solve your issue. This will help others find it more readily. It also closes the item. If the content was useful in other ways, please consider giving it Thumbs Up.

What's very strange about this is that you can use HTTP Post from Power Automate to update the column. In SharePoint it will even show you the image, and allow you to click on it to open. However, when using the SharePoint picture selector when adding an image from within SharePoint, it's clear the place where it is storing it is some integrated solution, not simply a URL. It's this formatting difference which allows PowerApps access it appears. I post a picture, looks fine, but no access in PowerApps. Replace that image with one using the selector and everything immediately works. So........ big gap on Microsoft's side.
SharePoint/Microsoft Lists image columns now also supports displaying images in power apps, adding/updating images from Power apps and Power automate:

I found a solution. Seems like a workaround but it works. Like you know PowerApps needs a unique ID to recognize the picture on SharePoint. Now we're going to find it.
As I uploaded all my pictures to SP Site Assets, I use "Get file metadata using path"
The unique ID is in the Etag field which looks like this
Luckily, the ID has a standard format so we only need one more step with the Etag as Input
With the ID now available, we only need to include it in the HTTP body
That's all, and the pictures are shown on Power Apps. In general, sharepoint is a pain to work with. Let me know if you have better solution.
Was having the same issue and tried your suggestion. Power Apps now knows the Image is there (tested by using IsBlank and it returns false, but is still unable to pull the actual image in so I was wondering if you could share your entire HTTP Request to see if there's anything else I might be missing.
This is really helpful! Is there any chance you could share the full HTTP (maybe xxx anything private) as I can't seem to get it working with the ID field and cant work out whats not correct.
@xineo @KT_NZ here's the full body of my HTML request: {
"__metadata": {
"type": "SP.Data.TGA_x0020_storageListItem"
},
"Title": "@{items('Apply_to_each')?['Title']}",
"Picture": "{\"type\":\"thumbnail\",\"fileName\":\"@{items('Apply_to_each')?['Title']}.jpg\",\"fieldName\":\"Picture\",\"serverUrl\":\"\",\"serverRelativeUrl\":\"/sites/msteams_xxxxxxx/SiteAssets/Lists/xxxxxxxx/@{items('Apply_to_each')?['Title']}.jpg\",\"id\":\"@{body('Substring')}\"}"
}
The "xxxx" is my teams id. You can check also my URI and header here:
Does this worked for you? I tried the 'ID' solution but after adding ID, Image is not showing in sharepoint also
Bro, it works for my. Thanks so much.
