Hi All,
I was after some advice on the best way to incorporate images in Power Apps.
I have 100 ID photos which are in Jpeg format (50 KB each). When a users name is selected, I would like their photo to show.
I have done this in the past (URI format) by looking at a SharePoint list. However, I would like to avoid this. I have managed to create a faster, more efficient app that works offline by using static data.
Is it possible to store the images within the application itself, rather than looking up SharePoint?
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Kind regards,

Hi @Newbie2019 ,
Before you continue down the Media track, you cannot dynamically refer to SharePoint elements such as media file names, so you would have to hard-code the lot. This would be an ongoing issue with changes.
Honestly the best ways would be: -
Store them in a SharePoint Library with the user's name in the metadata and also in a matching field in the main list - just don't give them the same name - I will use NameUser for the list and NamePhoto for the Library (which I will call UserPhotos). You can then display the photo in a custom card image control as
LookUp(
UserPhotos,
NamePhoto=ThisItem.NameUser
).'{Thumbnail}'.Large
Another option (which I use) is to simply attach the photo to the list item, again a custom card with an Image control with the Image
Last(ThisItem.Attachments).Value
The Last() is just to get the newest photo if there is more than one - or you would use First().

Hi @Newbie2019
You can use Media option in the Canvas App to store static images. You will need to follow a naming convention so that you can identify the file easily. Note: If you add the images static, then you will need to add/remove the images everytime and update the expression.
Hope this Helps!

Hi @yashag2255
Thanks for the speedy reply. So just to clarify, let's say I have a drop down and select Ruby Philips.
The picture that I have uploaded to media would need to be called Ruby Philips.jpeg in order to look this up?
So I would make the file name for each picture the persons name that matches my drop down list?
Kind regards,
Hey @Newbie2019
Following the comment of @yashag2255 , yes, you should name it like that or other way that makes a 1:1 relationship.
You need to able to identify the user easily and a user should ony have 1 picture and a picture should only have 1 user
Thanks for the help. Do you know to to reference a saved image?
For example, under the image control do I start it with:
Dropdown4_1.SelectedText.Value=....
I am not sure how to then have it search my stored media images for the matching name...
Any further assistance would be appreciated.
Kind regards,
I would set the a var on the OnChange property of the combo boc.
Like: Set(varImg; Dropdown.SelectText.Value)
And them, on the image you would just insert the var or, if needed like in a sharepoint list: Name.varImg
Hi @Nogueira1306 ,
Could I possibly get some more direction.
1) I upload a series of images to the media component of Power Apps.
These may be called:
Ruby Smith
Jack Ryan
Suzie Goodlife
2) I then create a variable on the OnChange property of the dropdown.
Set(varlmg; Dropdown.SelectedText.Value)
It is at this point, that I don't understand how the image control matches the varlmg to the image name. 😫
Kind regards,
3) Have an image control
Now you have to filter the collection to go get the item with that name
and them,
Just write:First(myCollection.img)
Not sure if will work, never used it
Unfortunately, it didn't work. 😥 Thanks for taking the time to try and help.😁
Kind regards,
