Temporary default to dropdown list

Hi team,

I have a dropdown control which draws its items from a distinct filter to a SharePoint column.

For example, my list has a "Type" column with multiple rows entered with either an "Apple", "Orange" or "Pear" type. My filter on the drop down is: Distinct(Filter('SharePoint List',Status<>"Complete"),Type). This shows me the distinct item types for all rows that have not been completed.

My question is - on first load of the screen, the items in the dropdown filter and display immediately, which has flow on effects to other fields.  I am wanting the dropdown to display a "Select One" style tooltip, which then applies the filtering to display the items once it has been interacted with. 

I have tried adding a control row to my SharePoint list with a Type of "Select One", it works however then the option of "Select One" remains in the list which isn't ideal.

Any suggestions?

If you use a Combo Box, you can set the InputTextPlaceholder to "Select One", then set IsSearchable to true.

Consider an example of 

Add a Dropdown control called Dropdown1

Items property of Dropdown1

[Blank(),"1","2","3"]

Default property of Dropdown1

leave it empty.

Add a Label control called Label1

Text property of Label1

With({sv:Dropdown1.Selected.Value},If(!IsBlank(sv),sv,"Not Selected"))

Notice that when there is nothing selected in the dropdown, the label will say "Not Selected".

When something is selected, it will have the selected value in there.

Check if something like this helps as starting point @Marty_Dub 

You can try to make the dropdown keep the first element as Blank()

Then you can adjust the rest of the app to only flow through if it's Blank or otherwise to

With({sv:Dropdown1.Selected.Value},If(IsBlank(sv),DO_SOMETHING))

For your "Select One" needting to be displayed:
You can also use "Select One" instead of Blank() to be the specific think you check, if you prefer - however, I would not recommend it, I'd recommend to use Blank() as the first item. You could instead put a "Select One" or "A selection is required here" label above the dropdown, that is visible or not visible depending on if the selected item in dropdown is Blank()
