Text DataCard default value to Blank if condition not met

Hi

I have one form for New,Edit and View

I would like to set the default property of my text data card so in the edit mode it will be send a blank value for below condition is not met. Let me know how to do this. I'm getting the error "This rule creates a circular reference between properties which is not allowed" when I used the below code in the default property.

If(Toggle1.Value=true, Parent.Default, Blank())

Hi

So below is the screenshot. So if it is a User account, it will show the toggle 'email required or not'. If true, it will show the Local Email datacard.

In Form.Mode New it is working ok since I'm using update context to reset Local Email datacard if user reset the toggle or type of account.

So I was thinking of creating a column to store the toggle value in the SP List, so that it will know be true or false in Edit mode.

Can you show a screenshot of your form showing the Toggle and the formula?

@indhaa

The toggle must be outside of the form.  You can set the Default property of the control inside the card to

If(
    Toggle1.Value && Form1.DisplayMode = Edit,
    Blank(),
    Parent.Default
)

Toggle1.Value reduces to either true or false.   The above formula will only show the control being blank if the toggle is true and the form's DisplayMode is Edit otherwise it will show the Parent.Default.  In View mode it will only show Parent.Default regardless of the state of the toggle. Since the toggle is only active when the form is in Edit mode, you could set its Visible property to Form1.DisplayMode=Edit

Hi

I'm getting the error not due to the toggle being inside the form. I tried your way and creating it outside and got the same error. So did some troubleshooting and found the issue was due to this.

So by default the toggle value was false and if false my Text data card is not showing even it have data in Form.Mode Edit. So to overcome this I added this code to the Toggle default property

If(!IsBlank(DataCardValue63),true,false)

And since I'm trying to add to the default property of DataCardValue63 the below code, this creates a circular reference between the properties which prompt the error.

If(Toggle1.Value=true, Parent.Default, Blank())

You get what I'm saying. So how can I do the both?

1. Keep it to true if data in text card

2. and during form submit i want the datacard to update with blank value if toggle is false

@indhaa

I'll need to see a screenshot please

@indhaa

Good Idea, use a single line of text type.

Hi,

Need your input. I did as above and it was working last night but today when i did the testing again having some issue.

Do powerapps code give different results on different time. What is the best way to know your code is ok, open the app again after each change? My other forms also have the same issue when i checked again , it is really frustrating when this happens.

Anyway in the toggle default property i kept it is as below but now I'm unable to uncheck during edit mode. i want when opening the form it to to be checked if SP list column is true and vice versa and user to be able to uncheck if in edit mode if they want it. Your thought on how to correct this.

@indhaa

There shouldn't be any difference depending on time of day.  The toggle should by default reflect the value in your column.  If it is on a form, make sure the Update property of the card containing the toggle says Checkbox1.Value so that it will save it correctly when the form is saved.

Sorry I think i was not clear on the issue.

Everything is updating alright.

Only issue is if the value on my SP list is true, the toggle is true and I'm unable to check/uncheck it. It goes back to default when I try to uncheck it. But if the value on my SP list is false, I'm able to check / uncheck it the toggle.

Hope my explanation is clear
