The requested operation is invalid. Server Response: Technical Solution Summary failed: Invalid URL

Hi All,

I have a SharePoint online list which has a Hyperlink field, I am using a Canvas app to create the data.

I assume the datacard, on the app, should be able to handle the URL input, and the connection should be able to store it.

If I save the form with nothing in this field (it is required), I get the correct error saying it is required, but I can no longer save the form.

I have added logging of errors in the SharePointConnection OnSave, and it comes back with "The requested operation is invalid.", it also occasionally shows "Skip to main content", without this, there are no errors display on screen or via the Notify functionality.

If I close and reopen the form, put in all the data, but put in a invalid link, and click save, I will get

The requested operation is invalid. Server Response: Technical Solution Summary failed: Invalid URL: REQ-Break-Me. clientRequestId: 1cc79ae3-7c77-45a5-a7b7-52663e671db8 serviceRequestId: 1cc79ae3-7c77-45a5-a7b7-52663e671db8

Now I fix the URL and point in a nice valid URL (just copy the SharePoint URL for testing), and I can no longer save the record as I just get the The requested operation is invalid. message again.

I have not changed this field since it was added initially to the form when I created the Power Apps version, so this seems to be a problem with either the DataCard or the SharePoint connector.

Any thoughts or help would be appreciated.

Hi @Anonymous :

If you are worried about losing data, I suggest you do not try step3, you can try "Delete and recreate the connection and From controls."

Because I cannot reproduce the problem you mentioned, I can only offer some more suggestions:

1\Use the Errors function to check for errors.

2\Use Patch to submit records. For example:

add new record

Patch(SPList,Defaults(SPList),{Title:"1",HyperlinkColumn:"www.google.com"})

edit a record

Patch(SPList,TheDesignatedItem,{Title:"1",HyperlinkColumn:"www.google.com"})

3\If the problem remains unsolved, I suggest you create a support ticket.

Hi @Anonymous :

Firstly, let me explain why you encountered this problem(The requested operation is invalid. Server Response: Technical Solution Summary failed: Invalid URL: REQ-Break-Me. clientRequestId: 1cc79ae3-7c77-45a5-a7b7-52663e671db8 serviceRequestId: 1cc79ae3-7c77-45a5-a7b7-52663e671db8)

The point is "REQ-Break-Me" is not a valid URL.

Secondly,I've made a test but not encountered the problem you mentioned(Now I fix the URL and point in a nice valid URL (just copy the SharePoint URL for testing), and I can no longer save the record as I just get the The requested operation is invalid. message again.)

I suggest you consider the following aspects to solve this problem:

1\There is a max number of Characters limit for a sharepoint URL , and we couldn't get more than 255 characters in a Hyperlink Column in a SharePoint List currently.

2\Use some simple URLs to test, for example:

https://www.google.com/

3\Delete and recreate the Hyperlink Column.

4\Delete and recreate the connection and From controls.

Hi @v-bofeng-msft

Thanks, I know "REQ-Break-Me", is not a valid URL. This was for testing, as I said in the sentence directly above, I put in the Invalid URL for Testing, as sometimes people do put incorrect URLs.

The problem I am trying to solve is "How do I fix it when this occurs", because as of right now, it generally requires cancelling the screen, refreshing the browser and trying again. I have had it so broken, that I need to not just close the tab, but the entire browser, get back to SharePoint and try again.

I have tried with smaller URLs and still get the exact same problem.

To get the Invalid Operation up, you need to modify the Forms OnFailure to be

Notify(SharePointForm1.Error, NotificationType.Error);

Without this error checking, SubmitForm will silenty fail, and the "Skip to main content" will keep appearing.

My problem with Step 3, is that if I delete this column and recreate it, will I not lose any data that exists in that column?

The 255 characters is one problem I will definitely have to keep in mind, thanks for that 🙂

Regards,

Rob.
