Triggering a Power Automate flow in Power Apps

Hi everyone,

I created a flow in my PowerApps application. The idea is to take multiple role types that are given a number of people needed by role, and total them by role for a specific event.

The Setup would be similar to this:

SharePoint list 1: duplicate records by event name

Event NameRole Type 1Role Type 2Role Type 3Role Type 4Role Type 5
event123311
event123311
event252244
event252244

SharePoint list 2: Totals by role of list 1

Event NameRole Type 1Role Type 2Role Type 3Role Type 4Role Type 5
event146622
event2104488

The flow is set-up to total the role types by event. The flow checker indicates there are no errors, but when I run it, it doesn't do the work. These are the steps in my flow that I have set-up:

1. PowerApps (V2)

2. Get Items

a. Site Address: my site address

b. List Name: my list that represents list 1 above in the example

3. Initialize variable for creating an array

a. Name: new array name

b. Type: array

4. Initialize variable for each role

a. Name: new variable name

b. Type: float

5. Apply to each

a. Select output from previous steps: value x (SharePoint)

b. Append to array variable

1. Name: new array name

2. Value: Title x (SharePoint)

6. Compose

a. Inputs: fx: union(variables('new array name'),variables('new array name'))

7. Apply to each 2

a. Select output from previous steps: outputs('Compose')

b. Get items 2

1.  Site Address: my SharePoint site

2. List Name: my list that represents list 1 above in the example

3. Filter Query: item() x

c. Apply to each 3

1. Select output from previous steps: value x (SharePoint)

2. Increment Variable:

a. Name: new variable name for each variable initialized except the array variable

b. Value: Column name in SharePoint from my list that represents list 1 above in the example

8. Get Items 3

a. Site Address: my SharePoint site

b. List Name: my list that represents list 2 above in the example

c. Filter Query: Title eq 'item()'

9. Compose 2

a. Inputs: first(outputs('Get_items_3')?['body/value']?['Title']

10. Apply to each 4

a. Select an output from previous steps: value x (SharePoint)

b. Update item

1. Site Address: my SharePoint site

2. List Name: my list that represents list 2 above in the example

3. Id: outputs('Compose')

4. Title: text

5. Column name of site list: variable name coinciding with column for each role

11. Set Variable for each

I have a button set-up in my PowerApps application to run this after data is added to my list 1. The flow doesn't seem to convert duplicate Titles into a single record or sum the totals from each column and show in list 2.

What have I missed in my flow? Any thoughts?

Thanks,

Ange

Hi , @Sawh

According to your screenshot, you use the  outputs('Compose') in your Id property:

But your compose action is the array of the title in your sharepoint list:

vyueyunmsft_1-1709088029802.png

You need to use the ID column in SharePoint list instead of the title column:

Hi, @Sawh

After your 6 actions , in my understand , you need to check :
[1]Apply to each 2 : loop the outputs('Compose'):
(1)Get items in SharePoint list 1 : filter query (Event Name = item() )
(2) Get items in SharePoint list 2 : filter query (Event Name = item() )
(3)Update the item in SharePoint list 2 (id use the (2)'s return )

Thanks for your help. I have fixed my initial issues. The flow is running without errors. However, during the operation of the flow, in my Get items 3 action, the Filter Query: Title eq 'item()' doesn't work. When I check the result after the run, the code is no longer there, and so the flow doesn't finish properly. Do you know what would cause this to happen?

Ange

Hi , @Sawh

Did you put the item() in the expression?

Yes, I did. I managed to correct that issue and my flow does the final get items input and output, but the Update items greys out. My outputs are there, just can’t seem to figure out why the Update items is skipped.

have you had that issue before and if so, what did you do?

thanks

Ange

Hi , @Sawh

Thanks for your response! Can you show a screenshot of your flow run history in your side?

Yes, I will share  shortly.

Ok, here are screen shots of before the flow is run of specific actions including the Trigger. The first 10 shots are how the flow is set-up, and the last 2 shots are the result starting at Compose 2 and ending at Update Items.

Any thoughts on why this error is now happening? It didn't happen before.

Thanks,

Ange

Hi , @Sawh

This error code means that you pass the null in the id column in the "Update item" action:

vyueyunmsft_1-1708654423367.png

You need to check which field you pass to the id and why it is the 'null' in your side.

Thanks. I think I understand what is happening here.

I will follow-up once I correct the issue to let you know.
