Updating fields only based on successful submission.

I have a last screen, which is a successful submission for an order. I want to update three status fields based on a successful submission and update the field for date of submission to a SharePoint List.

I am trying to do this by having a form control that's invisible for those fields where I put the following for the "OnSuccess" property:

Actual Code:

Patch(Orders,LookUp(Orders,'Order ID'=DataCardValue208.Text),{'Initial Date': Today(),'Equipment Status': "Inquiry Received",'Support Status': "Identified", Status: "In-progress"})

Orders is the SharePointList and DataCardValue208 is the value for the Order ID listed in the form.

Error:

The type of this argument 'Equipment Status' does not match the expected type 'Record'. Found type 'Text'.

The function 'Patch' has some invalid arguments.

@Kirsten2 ,

That is because Self.LastSubmit does not apply - if you submit the Form then test this on a button using your Form name instead of Self.

I get no notification.

Thanks for your help thus far! I am not getting a notification. I starting researching similar problems and found this:

Solved: Re: onsuccess update field in current item - Power Platform Community (microsoft.com)

I am not sure how to follow it.

Patch(
YourSharepointList,
LookUp(
YourSharepointList,
ID = YourForm.LastSubmit.ID
),
{'Quote Number': LookUp(AutoQuoteNumberTest, ID = "1").NextQuoteNumber}
)

I am not sure what's NextQuoteNumber. Isn't that usually, .Text? And I am assuming AutoQuoteNumberTest is the field name from SharePoint List. Sorry! Thanks for your help.

@Kirsten2 ,

'Quote Number' is simply the user's value from that post - you need your values. I actually use this code structure on every one of my forms to set the current record values in a Variable, so I can assure you it is correct assuming your values are.

You definitely have this OnSuccess of the Form and (I know obvious question) your form is submitting a record to the Orders list and you have no errors in the code ?

The SharePointList, Orders, isn't updating those fields with the set values from the OnSuccess property after hitting a submission button. I have set no requirements yet. There is no errors in the code.

Does the submission button need a patch function there too? Or a Submitform()?

Thanks for your help thus far!

@Kirsten2 ,

It needs SubmitForm() otherwise OnSuccess does not trigger - I assumed you knew that when putting the code there.

Thanks! I tried SubmitForm(Form9), but got the following error:

There was a problem saving your changes. The data source may not be valid.

This form is only several fields out of many fields in a SharePoint list where it would need to update via the Order ID. The SubmitForm() function does not allow that specificity, right?

I basically have 15 screens of forms and then a submit screen with a submit button where I want those fields to update if the required fields are complete from those 15 screens. I have not tried setting up the requirements part.

I am thinking about this more and perhaps OnSuccess property is not the best route for me.  I am thinking of setting up a conditional Patch for those fields based on whether the previous fields on other screens were complete using the IsBlank() function for the required fields and count how many are complete at the end.  I want flexibility for the customer to move through the forms first without them being required until the very end.  What do you think?

@Kirsten2 ,

OK - you might as well forget about the previous 19 items in the thread as I have assumed I was simply dealing with an OnSuccess not working after SubmitForm() -15 screens of forms are a totally different subject and I assume you are using Patch with Form.Updates, so you need to add this patch after that code referencing the ID of the record, however if (as I suspect) you are creating a new record, then this is not going to be straightforward.
