Using information from a datacare to populate a field on another screen

Hello!

I have two Sharepoint Lists.

Information collected in the screen below goes to SP1.

NewOrgScreen

NewOrgScreen.PNG

When users click the button on the NewOrgScreen, the information is submitted to SP1 and navigates to NotesScreen.

Information from the NotesScreen is saved in a different SharePoint list - SP2. (I'm using Organization name as a lookup in SP2.)

How can I have the organization name pre-populated from the NewOrgScreen?

I have it working for existing organizations in my database (new notes are saving in my SP2 list and referencing to the Organization in SP1). I just can't figure out how to do it when users are adding a new organization.

Thank you!!

The NewOrgContactsScreen is basically an extension from the NewOrgScreen - just couldn't get it to fit on one screen.

@tjtaylor

To confirm, did my previous advice at least get the organization name to show in all the right places?  I know its not all saving properly right now but at least that's a good place to start!

To me it sounds like you are having two separate problems.

#1  Multiple rows are being created but you expected the data to create only a single new row, correct?  Did you create 3 separate forms on 3 separate screens so far?

#2  The organization name does not appear to be saved after submitting the 2nd form.  What does the UPDATE property say for this Card?

Yes - I have three separate forms on three separate pages. Page 1 and 2 really go together (NewOrgScreen and NewOrgContactsScreen) because they are capturing all the info about the company and the person they talked to.

The NewOrgNotes screen is info that needs to be saved to my SP2 list using the lookup org from SP1.

The Update property on my NewOrgNotes screen for the Organization datacard is:

{ '@odata.type':"#Microsoft.Azure.Connectors.SharePoint.SPListExpandedReference",
Id: form_OrgInfo.LastSubmit.ID,
Value: form_OrgInfo.LastSubmit.Organization
}

@tjtaylor

Now that I know all of these tables are creating a single record in the same table we have to rethink this once again.  My assumption was you were creating records in three separate tables.

What you want to do here is have the 1st form create a new record and have the 2nd and 3rd forms edit the same record.  We can accomplish this using form modes.

Your first form creates a new record so I assume when the user navigates to it you are using this code.

NewForm(your_form1_name)

This code must be included in the OnSelect property of the buttons used to navigate the the 2nd and 3rd forms. Its purpose is to put the forms in Edit mode as opposed to creating a new record.

EditForm(your_form2_name)
EditForm(your_form3_name)

Then you would put this code in the Items property for both the 2nd and 3rd forms.

LookUp(your_datasource_name,ID=Form1.LastSubmit.ID)

The Organization Name on your 2nd form shouldn't be a ComboBox.  Make it a text field instead to match the SharePoint column data type.  That's why its not saving.  Just delete the Card altogether and re-add it.  The Text Input will appear automatically with all the correct code.

Change the Default property of your Text Input for organization to this code.  Since we are reading in the record that was being created from SharePoint we don't need myOrganization.Value.

ThisItem.Organization

That's about it...

You are THE BEST!

Thank you! I'm a little embarrassed that I couldn't think of that. I guess that's what happens when you've been sitting at your computer working on this day and night.

I have one more quick question. I have a button that I would like hidden on the following criteria (working great):

If(ComboBox2.Selected.Organization = Blank( ), false, true)

OR...I also want it hidden if the form mode is in edit.

Thank you!

@tjtaylor

If(YourForm.DefaultMode = FormMode.Edit,false,If(ComboBox2.Selected.Organization = Blank( ), false, true) )

@tjtaylor
I have 2 ideas. You can try either one of these in the Visible property of the button. I think the 1st one is what you want but I provided another just in case.

!IsBlank(ComboBox2.Selected.Organization) Or Form1.Mode=FormMode.Edit

!IsBlank(ComboBox2.Selected.Organization) Or Form1.DisplayMode=DisplayMode.Edit

Note: please notice how an of statement is not necessary if a property requires a true/false value. It only requires some comparison to take place.
