Validation certains controls

Hi,

These are my Controls:

TypeOfLeave (Vacation, FreeDay)

datePickerStart

datePickerEnd

Day

labelInvalidDates

I´d like to  validate certains controls depending of TypeOfLeave.

If = Vacation, just validate startDate and endDate

• datePickerStart must be great er than the current day 
• datePickerEnd must be greater than datePickerStart

if =FreeDay, just validate  the day

• must be great er than the current day 

I handled the visibility of these controls. I´d like to validate before submit and then enabled the submit button.

i found this code on the forums

datePickerStart.BorderColor: If(datePickerEnd.SelectedDate < datePickerStart.SelectedDate, Color.Red, RGBA(101, 128, 187, 1))

Before I suggest you a solution could you just tell us if you're trying to do this in an app or in a customized SharePoint list form ?

Ok. So, since you created your app from a SharePoint list, I suggest you use the datacards that you have in your form.

Let's say you have the following datacards in your form (with their controls inside):

• DataCard_TypeOfLeave
  • DataCardValue_TypeOfLeave
  • ...
• DataCard_DatePickerStart
  • ErrorMessage_DatePickerStart
  • DataCardValue_DatePickerStart
• DataCard_DatePickerEnd
  • ErrorMessage_DatePickerEnd
  • DataCardValue_DatePickerEnd
• DataCard_Day
  • ErrorMessage_Day
  • DataCardValue_Day

Considering these datacards, what I suggest you to do is to set the following control properties:

DataCard_DatePickerStart.Visible --> DataCardValue_TypeOfLeave.Selected.Value = "Vacation"
DataCard_DatePickerEnd.Visible --> DataCard_DatePickerStart.Visible
DataCard_Day.Visible --> Not(DataCard_DatePickerStart.Visible)

ErrorMessage_DatePickerStart.Text --> If(Parent.DisplayMode=DisplayMode.Edit && Not(IsBlank(DataCardValue_DatePickerStart.SelectedDate)) && DataCardValue_DatePickerStart.SelectedDate<=Today(),"Your vacation can only start from tomorrow or later.",Parent.Error)
ErrorMessage_DatePickerEnd.Text --> If(Parent.DisplayMode=DisplayMode.Edit && Not(IsBlank(DataCardValue_DatePickerStart.SelectedDate)) && Not(IsBlank(DataCardValue_DatePickerEnd.SelectedDate)) && DataCardValue_DatePickerEnd.SelectedDate<=DataCardValue_DatePickerStart.SelectedDate,"Your vacation must last at least one day long.",Parent.Error)

SharePointIntegration.OnSave --> If(IsBlank(ErrorMessage_DatePickerStart.Text & ErrorMessage_DatePickerEnd.Text & ErrorMessage_Day.Text),SubmitForm(SharePointForm1),Notify("You still have errors on your form. Please review them and save again.",NotificationType.Error)

You could also set the code inside the SharePointIntegration.OnSave on a Button.OnSelect property if you prefer.

I hope I didn't make any mistake because I compiled it only with my brain... 🙂 (didn't test it)... But the main idea is there.

Another thing: you don't need to handle the colors of your controls borders since the form handles it automatically once a value is set on an ErrorMessage_<whatever>.Text property.

Ok, so since your app is based on a SharePoint list I suggest you use the datacards you have in your SharePointForm1.

So, let's say you have the following datacards in your form (with their corresponding controls):

  • DataCardValue_DatePickerStart
  • ...
• DataCard_DatePickerEnd
  • ErrorMessage_DatePickerEnd

  • ...
• DataCard_Day
  • ErrorMessage_Day
  • DataCardValue_Day

Considering these datacards, here is how I suggest you to set the various properties of these controls:

DataCard_DatePickerStart.Visible --> DataCardValue_TypeOfLeave.Selected.Value="Vacation"
DataCard_DatePickerEnd.Visible --> DataCard_DatePickerStart.Visible
DataCard_Day.Visible --> Not(DataCard_DatePickerStart.Visible)

The formula of the SharePointIntegration.OnSave could also be set on the OnSelect property of a button inside your canvas of course.

Another thing: don't bother about the border colors of your controls when there are errors... If you leave the OOTB formulas it's automatically handled: if an ErrorMessage_<whatever>.Text is not empty, then the control becomes reddish.

Hope I didn't make any mistake (compiled this only with my brain; didn't test it). But the main idea is there...
