View Form to Display Selected Gallery Item

Hello,

I have run into a problem that is driving me absolutely bonkers.

I have a VERY simple app, only one screen.

On the left is a gallery (Gallery1) that shows items from a sharepoint list (I'll call it Data Source Table Name). On the right, I have a form (Form1) which I changed the DefaultMode to View.

Gallery1 is showing my list items no problem. I have the next arrow on the gallery set to OnSelect Select(Parent).

Form1 Item is set to Gallery1.Selected. I also have OnSuccess set to Refresh('Data Source Table Name')

When I select the Next arrow, the Form1 does not update to show the gallery item selected. In addition there is an error on Form1. When I click the X error and select edit in formula bar, it's bringing me to the Item Gallery1.Selected formula.

I can't figure out what I've done. I have done this on a different app and it works fine. Am I missing something really simple? I even tried making a copy of my app that works, and just changing the data source/references and this error still appears. It is based on a very simple SharePoint list.

Hi @Nunzie ,

I will give you an alternative to try, which has other advantages at times. On the Gallery OnSelect put

Set(varID, ThisItem.ID)

then the Item of the Form

Lookup(
   YourListName,
   ID = varID
)

Is there any reason why the other method works for one app but not this one? Just out of curiosity.

Did you assign the Data Source (SP List) to the Form? If not, assign it. Then, the error will go away.

If you still see the error, share the error details.

Not that I can see immediately (it usually works), however the syntax I gave presents the actual full record from the dataset and gives certainty that data displaying and writing will contain all that is needed. It is also highly useful for navigating to the screen from places other than the gallery (deep linking is one example) - you just set the ID to the required record.

Hi @Nunzie, could you please confirm the data sources for the gallery and the form are the same? Just checking as you didn't mention that in your description.

Yes, I have assigned the data source to the Form.

Error details attached.

However, the solution provided above works and will go with that. Just seemed odd to be getting this one and not sure why it works in one app and not the other.

Yes, the data source is the same on the Gallery and the Form. There is only the one data source for it.

Just to say that this was also happening to me and was driving me crazy... because I basicly created a new app exactly the same and in the new one it was working... 

But them... also in the new one it stopped working and I finally found out the issue... it died when I changed the labels of the Gallery... as soon as I changed the names of the labels again (all of them) is magically started working again... cannot understand the reason but... it worked...

Can I add this if I am moving between two screens also? like: 

Set(varID, ThisItem.ID), Navigate(Screen2)
