View Form to Display Selected Gallery Item

Hello,

I have run into a problem that is driving me absolutely bonkers.

I have a VERY simple app, only one screen.

On the left is a gallery (Gallery1) that shows items from a sharepoint list (I'll call it Data Source Table Name). On the right, I have a form (Form1) which I changed the DefaultMode to View.

Gallery1 is showing my list items no problem. I have the next arrow on the gallery set to OnSelect Select(Parent).

Form1 Item is set to Gallery1.Selected. I also have OnSuccess set to Refresh('Data Source Table Name')

When I select the Next arrow, the Form1 does not update to show the gallery item selected. In addition there is an error on Form1. When I click the X error and select edit in formula bar, it's bringing me to the Item Gallery1.Selected formula.

I can't figure out what I've done. I have done this on a different app and it works fine. Am I missing something really simple? I even tried making a copy of my app that works, and just changing the data source/references and this error still appears. It is based on a very simple SharePoint list.

If you just set the Form Item property to Lookup(YourDataset,ID= YourGallery.Selected.ID) , should work the same way.

This just saved me so much time, thank  you

Hi @WarrenBelz , i am doing an app similar and used this on the app, but it still isn't displaying anything when i select an item on the gallery, do you know what the issue could be?

Gallery OnSelect:

Set(recID,ThisItem.ID);

Form Item:

LookUp('SPList', ID= recID);

but form is returning blank.

Have you any ideas?

Thanks!

Hi @Anonymous ,

Assuming the Items of the Gallery include the ID of the record and the DataSource of the Form is the same list as the gallery, it certainly will work.

Hi @WarrenBelz ,

My gallery and form data source have the same SharePoint list. When navigating from Gallery on Select to Form, the form displays only the last updated value. It doesn't display the gallery selected details.

My gallery on select is:

Set(selectedsepg,This Item.'RPC ID');Navigate('sepg approval');

Form Items property is:

LookUp('RPC - Request Form', 'RPC ID' = selectedsepg)

Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.

@Uthhra ,

That should actually work, but this is an old closed thread - can you please post your issue as a new topic.

@rsaikrishna I got the same problem as the OP, and I have the DataSource for both the gallery and the form set to the same.  Both the gallery and form are in a container on the same screen (I also tried to put the form on another screen, but same result) and the form does not populate on the OnSelect event of the gallery.

Exact same issue as the OP 3 years later.  No idea why. No mention in the documentation of anything.  All vid tutorials say :  set Form.Item to GalleryName.Select and yet it does not work.

It is insane. It is frustrating beyond belief.  It is unacceptable, Microsoft.

@iso ,

I added gallery in one screen and form in another screen and in gallery I added a icon in gallery and on select of it I gave.

Set(varselected,This Item.'RPC id');Navigate(new screen);

And in the form items property:

LookUp(list name, 'RPC ID' = varselected). And changed the Display mode to Formmode.Edit.

It works fine for me in this way.

Hi @iso ,

Get rid of the container and see if it works - I have used this structure on every form and gallery in every app I have written and have never had an issue.

@WarrenBelz @Uthhra Getting rid of the container is not an option as I need no width resize for the gallery on the left, but flexible width for the form on the right. (I am using multiple nested containers.)

I tried the Set(varRecord, ThisItem) trick and it works.

The other problem I got was that clicking on a gallery item was not firing the OnSelect event.  I did not know that if you set all the components inside a gallery to DisplayMode.View, this disables the OnSelect event firing and the form does not populate. Still finding my way around the product, so a lot of obscure options left to understand.

Once DisableMode was set to Edit for all labels and buttons inside the gallery, everything worked as it should.

Needless to say, thanks to all who suggested the Set(varRecord, ThisItem) trick.  I did not have to use LookUp() in the form Item property.  Just Item = varRecord.
