collecting data from radio button that resides within sub-gallery of gallery

I'd like to know how to collect input data from a radio button that resides in a sub-gallery.

For instance, this is what I tried.

The code for my 'submit' button (that ultimately sends the data to an e-mail through power automate) looks something like this:

Brian_EAF_0-1655504537161.png

My output is JSON, and it looks like:

Brian_EAF_0-1655504951170.png

So even though I have several 'records' in the both the main "Sample Gallery" and sub-gallery "Ratings Gallery", it only inputs a single record - all of which are null.  (By the way, if I remove the "ForAll" for "Ratings Gallery", I get easily collect any information I want from the "Sample Gallery".

I'd appreciate any help!

@Brian_EAF

This probably has something to do with the Items properties of your 2 galleries, can you list this please.

Also, when posting code, could you please add it to a code window using '</>' ... this just makes it easier to replicate your situation and assist you better. Trying to retype code from a screenshot is difficult, thanks.

Thank you!

Thanks Eddie - I appreciate your help (and advice).  First, here is the code:

ClearCollect(testcount,"");
ForAll(
      'Sample Gallery'.AllItems As sample_gallery,
      ForAll('Ratings Gallery'.AllItems As ratings_gallery,
      Collect(
             testcount,
             {
                sample_number: sample_gallery.'Sample Label'.Text,
                title_label: ratings_gallery.'Title Label'.Text,
                radio_ratings: ratings_gallery.'Radio Ratings'.SelectedText.Value
             }
      );
    );
);
Set(testcount_,Concat(testcount,JSON({sample_number:sample_number,title_label:title_label,radio_ratings:radio_ratings})&Char(10)));
Kale.Run(testcount_,"","")

Second, I'm not quite sure how to get to the items properties, but I'll list all I can here.  Here are the properties of the galleries:

Brian_EAF_0-1655845477591.png

and

Brian_EAF_1-1655845491043.png

and here are some properties of the items - but I'm not sure if it's all that you want:

Brian_EAF_4-1655845986189.png

and

Brian_EAF_3-1655845561169.png

In my previous example, I found that power apps wasn't picking up the Varieties table - it is now, but I still get the following output:

{\"radio_ratings\":null,\"sample_number\":null,\"title_label\":null}

 Thanks again for your help!

@Brian_EAF

Thanks for this, this helps a lot.

The Items property of you galleries you can get from selecting the Gallery, then selecting Items (in the LHS dropdown, it's usually selected first) then copying the formula in the 'fx' formula bar. For example, I can see that the Sample Gallery Items is just 'Varieties' ie

EddieE_0-1655849877313.png

but I cannot see what the Items are for the Rating Gallery.

Also, how many records are in the data source Varieties? If more than 2000 then you'll be restricted with what you can do with ForAll()

EDIT: I forgot to add, what is the OnChange code of your radio control, if you have anything there? And I'll need the Items of the Radio control as well

Hi @EddieE ,

Thanks for your patience.  To answer your questions:

1.  here are the items in my Ratings Gallery:

Brian_EAF_0-1655944911855.png

2.  there are 5 items in my Varieties gallery

3.  I didn't realize that I had to change the OnChange code in my radio control.  Here it is:

Brian_EAF_1-1655945046227.png

4.  here are the Items in my radio control:

Brian_EAF_2-1655945313233.png

The 'error' is weird, because it seems to work - i.e., I get radio buttons based on the delimited string within the column.

Thanks,

Brian.

@Brian_EAF

How is the inner gallery related to the outer gallery?

Thank you!

Basically, we're taking a survey on a bunch of products - call them product 1, 2, 3, 4.   There are a standard list of questions asked for each product (i.e., the questions are exactly the same for each product) - each question is answered through a radio control.

If this helps, here's a screenshot of how it all fits together:

Brian_EAF_0-1655992083231.png

@Brian_EAF

So, after a considerable amount of testing, it appears that you cannot get the inner gallery AllItems properties ... not sure why?

As a workaround though, you can do this:

Set the OnVisible, or a 'Build' button or Icon (your choice) to this

ClearCollect(
    testcount,
        Ungroup(
        AddColumns(
            Varieties, "New", organoleptic),
            "New"
        )
);

This creates a collection that you can display and update as required from the Varieties and organoleptic data sources.

Then, set the Items of your Outer gallery to

GroupBy(testcount, "SampleNumber", "grpSamp")

Then set the Items of the Inner gallery to

ThisItem.grpSamp

It should look like this (my dev image)

EddieE_0-1656053217715.png

Set the OnChange of your Radio button to

Patch( testcount, ThisItem, {Rating: Self.Selected.Value})

Then, add this to a button to get your JSON

Set(testcount_,
    Concat(
        testcount,
        JSON(
            {
                sno: SampleNumber,
                title: Color,
                rate: Rating
            }
        ) &
        Char(10)
    )
)

It'll look like this if you add it to a Label

EddieE_1-1656053459076.png

You can mess around with the Field names, etc but this will do the job. Here is the data I tested it on if you need it

ClearCollect(
    Varieties,
    {Sample: "Blue Ridge (control)", SampleNumber: 1},
    {Sample: "Starbor", SampleNumber: 2},
    {Sample: "Winterbor", SampleNumber: 3},
    {Sample: "Darkibor", SampleNumber: 4}
);

ClearCollect(
    organoleptic,
    {Color: "Depth/Hue", Desc: "Desc here", Rating: "",Radio: ["Very Light", "Not Uniform", "Bumpy"]},
    {Color: "Uniformity", Desc: "Desc here", Rating: "", Radio: ["Not Uniform", "Slightly"]}
);

Hope this helps!
