data type error

Hi all,

Im making an app from a sharepoint list converted from Excel. In the app i can not get my search box connected to the galley. As soon as i type in the gallery " Search(partnumber),....... i get a fault. try to change the formula and try again. (datatype:table) 

can some one help me?

Hi,

When using the Search function in Power Apps, ensure that you are using it correctly. The first parameter should be the data source, and the second should be the search string, followed by the column name you want to search within. Assuming your gallery's Items property is set up to display partnumber and that partnumber is a text field in your SharePoint list, the syntax should be something like this:

Search(YourSharePointList, TextSearchBox1.Text, "partnumber")

In this case, YourSharePointList should be replaced with the actual name of your SharePoint list, TextSearchBox1.Text is the text input from your search box, and "partnumber" is the field in the SharePoint list that you want to search.

Here's what you need to do:

1. Make sure TextSearchBox1 (or whatever your search text input is called) is correctly referenced.
2. Check the name of the SharePoint list column you want to search ("partnumber" in the example above).
3. Ensure that the column name is correct and that the column type in SharePoint is compatible with the Search function (it should be a text field).

So your formula should look something like this if you're setting the Items property of your gallery:

Search(SharePointListName, SearchInput.Text, "ColumnName")

Replace SharePointListName with the name of your actual SharePoint list, SearchInput with the name of your search box control, and "ColumnName" with the name of the column you want to search for.

Thank you for you're answer. i know it should look like:

Search(SharePointListName, SearchInput.Text, "ColumnName")

 the formula bar works till:

Search(SharePointListName, 

 after this nothing is suggested and i get the waring.

Hi,

the warning is delegation warning and if you want to remove this then you can use startswith operator.

ok,

if i let powerapps make a 3 screen app it does work.  then it looks like this:

SortByColumns(Filter([@partnummer]; StartsWith(Title; TextSearchBox1.Text)); "Title"; If(SortDescending1; SortOrder.Descending; SortOrder.Ascending))

is this because of delegation?

Here you will find all you need to know about delegation issues.

Talking about Sharepoint, yes, Search() function is not delegable to sharepoint server, not like Startswith() which is it. Delegation means the place where the calculation / filtration is executed. For non-delegable power-apps functions the server responds with the maximum amount of data 500-2000 and the filter in executed on local host, so filter can be inaccurate for large amount of data in list.
