date/time field will not update when editing an item in sharepoint.

I have used powerapps to create a form to conduct a time study.  Users click buttons to record time stamps with a now() function at different steps in their process and then again when completed and I am using a calculated field to determine the time it takes to complete their given process.

The most recent study I have conducted involves a process that users may need to pause and return to at a later time.  This does not seem to work.  If users edit the record, Powerapps can update text and choice fields, but the date/time field will not update.  Is there something that sets this apart?

Hi @rbtgrp ,

Are you referring to a Calculated field in SharePoint - if so these do not work consistently with Power Apps and should be avoided. Instead, do the calculation in Power Apps. If this is not the case, what does not update ?

Thank you for responding.

I will start doing the calculated field in Power Apps, but do not think that is the issue here.  There are 4 steps on my form, so for example someone starts the first step and then submits.  The item in sharepoint will have the correct timestamp for step 1 and then steps 2, 3, and 4 will be blank.  If I open and edit the form and click the buttons for steps 2, 3, and/or 4 and then submit nothing updates.  Steps 2, 3, and 4 remain blank.

I am relatively new in using Power Apps, so there may be something very simple that I am missing.

Thank you.

@rbtgrp ,

Do you have separate date fields for steps 2, 3 & 4 and what are the buttons doing OnSelect ?

@WarrenBelz

Yes, there are separate date fields.

First button:

Set(step1start,Now());

Next button

Set(step1stop,Now());

Set(step2start,Now())

and so on.

@rbtgrp ,

That is setting Variables - where are you writing the data to SharePoint ?

@WarrenBelz

I have been hacking this together based on things i find online so apologies if the responses do not make sense.

The only other field I have changed on any of the timers is adding seconds to the update variable on the datacard. =DateValue1.SelectedDate + Time(Value(HourValue1.Selected.Value), Value(MinuteValue1.Selected.Value), Value(SecondValue1.Selected.Value))

And then have a submit button with OnSelect of SubmitForm(SharePointForm1);

Thank you

@rbtgrp ,

OK - a better question is how are those variables changing the values on the form you are submitting ?

I appreciate your patience, but I suppose I do not understand the question.  Submitting the form is creating a new row on the sharepoint list. The first time the form is submitted, the columns (step1start and step1stop for example) should have the date and time written to them if the corresponding button was clicked on the form.  The expectation was that when returning to the form and editing, any of the buttons that weren't previously clicked would be able to be clicked to update the form with the additional starts and stops.

@rbtgrp ,

Looking back, if you have this on the Update of the Data Card

DateValue1.SelectedDate +
Time(
   Value(HourValue1.Selected.Value),
   Value(MinuteValue1.Selected.Value),
   Value(SecondValue1.Selected.Value)
)

and you are then submitting the Form, it certainly should write that field to the List. How does the Variable come into this and does the User select the date and times themselves ?
