images from azure sql

I have built an app with Azure sql as the datasource. I have been storing images directly in sql as varbinary(max) and varchar(max) successfully. Today I went to add an image field (varchar(max)) to another screen and it is now showing as text not an image. I have the same field added to the default screen and there it shows as an image. 

Weird stuff...anyone have any insight on why it is doing this?

Could you please share a bit more about the issue that you mentioned?

How do you display the image field value within another screen of your app? Using Image control?

I have made a test on my side, and don't have the issue that you mentioned. The screenshot as below:

Please check if the image filed (varchar(max)) in your SQL table has stored proper image Data Url Data or Image blob data.

Please consider add a Gallery control (Image Layout) within your screen, set the Items property to your SQL table, then set the Image control within the Gallery to following:

ThisItem.ImageField

check if the image could be displayed well in your Gallery. 

Note: Please use Image control to display the Image field value from your Azure SQL table within your app.

If the issue still exists, please consider take a try to re-create a new varchar(max) field (or varbinary(max) field or Image field) to store the Image data value, then check if the issue is solved.

I display using the image control. It is correctly displaying on one screen, however, if I try to add the same field to another screen I only get the image blob data. I have tried adding another column to sql as varchar(max) and as image and the issue still persists. In the "Add Field" for forms the image, varchar(max) and varbinary(max) fields all show either as blank(just a blank box), or abc(in the box there) however, some of the fields do display as image. I haven't been able to figure out why. 

A couple of days ago I added a new varchar(max) field. It had the same issue but finally this resolved by waiting 24 hours and refreshing the datasource. But it has been over 48hours now and these image/varchar(max) fields are still showing as text.

I am convinced that it is the datasource not refreshing. I added two columns as varchar(max) last Friday. As of this morning, they show up in powerapps but they are showing as text not image fields. I can refresh the datasource but this doesn't change anything. If this follows the pattern I have seen, eventually the field will change to an image but for some reason it can take up to 3-5 days for this to happen. This seems to  be true for varbinary(max) or image datatypes. I am wondering if I am overusing this tier of Azure Sql. I am going to bump up to the next higher level of azure subscription and see if it has an impact.

This is still an issue. I have added a new varchar(max) column in Azure SQL however, it still is displayed as a text field and I cannot change it to image. Additionally, I added a column as an image data type and it too comes through as a non-image field in powerapps

Maybe a better question would be can I set a custom data card in a form to update a SQL field?
