my text box character max keeps defaulting to 255 characters, no matter what

hi. i have a sharepoint form with a simple text box. i want the text box max character limit to be 500. i think when it was set up in sharepoint, the field for it is "single line of text max 255" in my actual powerapps form, the datacard for the input box for the form is Multiline and i put 500 characters for MaxLength (the 500 shows up in red). is there some sort of disconnect? I need the box to accept up to 500 characters

You can't if you have single line of text. You are limited to 255, when you go to save it you'll get an error if you have more than that allowed and you manipulate PowerApps to accept more characters.

You'll need to go convert your field to MultiLine which should be doable without losing data as long as it's not your default Title field.

Yeah, I agree with @cwebb365 - think of it this way:

you are trying to pour 500ml into a 255ml container - no matter what you do in PowerApps, you will be limited by the field type in the data source - if you set this to Multi-line in SharePoint you can accept up to 63,999 characters

For a "single line of text" type in SharePoint the default is 255 characters, and the maximum is 255 characters. So this is more of a SharePoint issue, instead of a PowerApps one.

Note that the maximum characters allowed by sharepoint for a SLT column type is 255. You can probably use the MLT type field as suggested in the earlier responses.

First your have to change the column in SharePoint to multiple line of text which allow you have lengthen words in your apps when you refresh the data connection in PowerApps.

I have a Multiple lines of text field and it's still forcing the 225 character limit. It was set up as a Multiple lines of text field and has never been a single line field. So this isn't the answer.
