new look for Power Apps

We recently launched a preview of the new look for model driven app Power Apps. Details here As you try out the preview, please tell us what you think.  In the coming weeks we'll be talking more about how modern controls, using the Microsoft Fluent design system, will be coming to canvas apps, theming is also on the horizon (about time!).  We're keen to hear people's thoughts and feedback on all those topics here.

Many thanks

Ben

Thanks for reporting this, @philjn77 .   I'm having the same issue.

It's neither nonsense nor my approach. It creates a palette based on that initial colour. If you hover over the button it's a close match for your original rgb values.

If you have a corporate policy that all buttons on a web application must be a specific rgb value at all times then I guess you'll have to stick with classic buttons or keep petitioning microsoft to add that as a feature to modern controls.

I complained about the poor feature of the modern controls and the theme palette. This thread is about it (new look). I know I can stick to the old look. But you mix so many policies with programming due to unfinished components. More than 1.5 years.
For me it would be more interesting what MS will says to it. They do not fear any competitors. That is the problem sometimes.

You all understand that you are beta testing these controls as they are not really ready for use having many issues that have been reported here and elsewhere. Microsoft makes no site available for reporting issues. These consensus feature sites are not the proper way to say to the Microsoft Development team: "This does not work and it's a defect" or "This basic functionality exists in the current controls and is missing from the modern ones (also a defect)".

We are all beta tester. You make my day. 😁

You are so right. Even when you pay all those License. 10 years ago it was impossible to do so. MS can do nowadays.

@MS and @benapple

when can we expect to set the primary Color in Color Themes?

I understand we're beta testing these features.  But when I select the 'Insert' dropdown to insert a new control, there are several 'Recommended' controls that are modern controls.  (Placing 'preview' next to the control is recent, I've noticed.)  Mixed messages.

Microsoft should have an internal QA staff/team large enough to do sufficient testing before rolling out new features.  (Wishful thinking?)  Using developers "in the field" at various companies as beta testers (guinea pigs) to test new features is not a good business model.  It reduces trust, creates uncertainty, increases time we'll have to spend on rework/debugging, and makes us less confident about the product overall.  Why would I want to employ a new feature if I know it may fail and my users will also have a bad experience?  Or that I have to factor in hours of rework with every line of code I write?  Et cetera.

I still believe PowerApps is a good product.  But I'm a little more guarded, less enthusiastic nowadays ...

We are facing the same issue and already raised a ticket for this, but no solution is available yet. This issue is very critical as users may not see the relevant records they need to work upon. Any update to this issue from Microsoft?

We continue to have the errors mentioned in https://community.dynamics.com/forums/thread/details/?threadid=9973902f-773a-ee11-bdf4-00224827e576
"TypeError: this.dataSet.getDataSetCapabilities is not a function"

When loading a form with a document grid on it. only disabling new look makes this go away. This has been an issue for months now.

Hello,

Is there a place where I can report issues?  We are receiving a lot of JavaScript errors and I have been tasked to remove the new look until we can get them resolved.  I was able to do per Microsoft's directions on an unmanaged application, but most of our applications are managed and those directions will not work.  I have tried creating solutions and adding the settings with the environment variables, setting them to no.  This worked with the first round of the new look but is not working for this latest round.

Thanks,

LLB

Hi there,

Can you validate that you're adding the new settings for April 2024, we added some new settings for this new default on phase. The new setting for April 2024 is called "New look for model driven apps" the October 2023 setting was called "Try the new look".

Please advise.
