Best approach to pass field form values from a page to another web page

Hi everyone,

What is the best solution in Power Pages to pass Dataverse field/column values from one web page with a parent form to another web page with a child form?

For example, in Dataverse, I have a Case as the primary/parent table with a Quote SubGrid. The relationship is 1:N (1 case: N Quotes). With the Dataverse OOB map table column functionality, I leverage the no-code solution to pass values from the parent entity to the child entity.

However, in Power Pages, the map table column doesn’t work because I have:

  • 1 Parent Web page with an embedded Case module containing a Quotes sub-grid;
  • 1 Child Web page with an embedded Quote form opened from the sub-metadata grid Quote of the previous Parent Web page.

When I open the Child Web Page, I see all the parent fields empty without values!

The community always suggests using JavaScript to query values via code, but my question is: Is there a better no-code solution?

Thanks in advance!

I am bit confused here

Your solution seems correct, I am assuming that by map you mean that you have a 1:N relationship, right?

"When I open the Child Web Page, I see all the parent fields empty without values!"

This doesn't make sense to me, are you using Power Pages Management app or Portal Studio to configure your subgrid / basic form? Can you share a few snapshots of the configuration?

This should work with low-code functionality

Hi Oliver,
Correct, I use 1:N relationship in Dataverse (alias Model-driven App).
I'm using Power Pages Management app.
About "Parent Fields" I mean a description text field in the Case Form that should be prepoulated during the open of the Quote Form (Onload form event).
Sorry, my real scenario is 'Customer Asset' as parent basic form:

Note that this metadata open the Web Page "Create Quote":

SubGrid (click to create):

Onload empty fields:

I remember that in 'Customer Asset' basi form I have the Potential Customer field filled, but when I open

the Quote SubGrid the Potential Customer is empty during Quote Creation event.

Also other desired fields are empty: lookups and text fields.

Thanks

Try removing the lookup entirely from the form and create the record, it should automatically associate the parent when creating.

Hi Oliver,

I tested your suggestion but it no work. You can see lookup empty:

Just to be clear, there is no Relationship Mapping like in your Model Driven App so the ability to 'natively' prefill is more limited (which is why to see a lot of JavaScript solutions).

You can get 1 mapping for the Lookup to the parent record - generally this is set on save, but can be set to pre-populate (I can't remember if this is available in the Site Editor or not) using the Portal/Power Pages Management App on the form (Basic form) under the Associated Table Reference tab you will find settings to do this (you have to fill in all the details in the screen shot not just the circled ones)

You can also, via a metadata record on the form, prefill some info if it is on the current portal users contact record, todays date, or a static value.

Many Thanks @Fubar ! Using JavaScript seems very wasteful to me.

Hi posted a new Power Pages mapping ideas here:
