Change the Link Expiration date of a Sharing Link created within Flow

I can create a Sharing Link to a file from within flow using "Create sharing link for a file or folder" which is great. The issue is when I want to change the link expiration date from within the Flow.

I have a scenario where I provide a sharing link to people that need to approve an item, then when the approval is finished (could be within hours, days or weeks), I want to set the link expiration date to the current date within the Flow. Effectively, only giving them read access to the item while the approval is in progress, and removing permissions once the approval has been completed.

Unfortunatley I can only see how to create a sharing link in Flow, and no way to modify it afterwards.

Hopefully I'm missing something and someone can help me get this working.

EDIT:

I just found out that you can only share with "Anyone with the link, including anonymous" or "People in your organization". So seems as though you can't provide specific users only to share the link with - deeming it completely useless for my scenario above (why oh why Microsoft/Flow) 😞

Hi @grantjenkins

Unfortunately, yes " you can only share with "Anyone with the link, including anonymous" or "People in your organization"

In case you have an extended use case, you can change the LINK EXPIRATION in the advanced options as shown in the screenshot below:

Hope this Helps!

Hi @yashag2255

Thanks for your reply. Unfortunately not the answer I was hoping for 🙂

I'll have to go down the track of breaking inheritance and assigning individual permissions - which I already know is a bunch of work within Flow - but no other choice I guess.

Yes I saw that you can set the Expiration Date in the advanced settings, but I need to modify this setting later in the Flow after the approval has been completed, and the duration is dynamic, so can't be set when I create the link.

So, I'm assuming there is no way to change the expiration date after the fact?

Again, thanks for your reply - appreciated.

Hopefully Flow (and PowerApps) mature in the near future and allow us to build complete solutions, without getting 90% of the way only to find that you can't do what you want due to known issues, limitations, etc.

Hey @grantjenkins

There is no independent action supported that can help you set the expiration date at a later stage. (I am guessing you will have to use the HTTP action for all of these)

You might want to check the Plumsail SP connector though. The service is a paid one but has some extended features for SharePoint integration with flow.

Hi @grantjenkins,

Unfortunately, it’s true that have difficult to get the time after the approval to append the LINK EXPIRATION. But we can create the other approve before create a approve to get the response time. Then set the time of LINK EXPIRATION to the day after response.

Although this method will cause a little trouble to the approver, and the link will not be terminated after one day of approval, but I think this should be a workaround that can solve your problem.

addDays(body('Start_and_wait_for_an_approval_get_the_file_link')?['responseDate'],1,'yyyy-MM-dd')

Hello,

I know this is very old question but my info might help other readers of this topic.

The in-built link share expiry feature is based on the date set by the owner. If I set the expiry date on 10 days from today then the link gets expired on the day.

But a lot of people like to set expiry based on no. of clicks. But the feature seems absent. But it can be easily accomplished by third party temporary expiry link generator online like https://expiry.link

I hope Microsoft adds such feature built-in. Thank you
