Error using int() in a csv table

I am trying to understand why I cannot imbed an int() command in a CSV column.  I'm simply trying to truncate the number of decimal places in a result.  However, even when I imbed an int() statement, I get an error.

This works:

div(
     mul(
       mul(sub(ticks(utcNow()),ticks(item()?['Requested_x0020_Date'])),1.1574e-12)
,10)
,10)

Result:  189.3432134

This does not work:

div(
  int(
     mul(
       mul(sub(ticks(utcNow()),ticks(item()?['Requested_x0020_Date'])),1.1574e-12)
,10)
)
,10)

Expected result:  189.3

Actual result:

InvalidTemplate. The execution of template action 'Create_CSV_table' failed. The column values could not be evaluated: 'The template language function 'int' was invoked with a parameter that is not valid. The value cannot be converted to the target type.'.

What gives???

It looks to me that int() is expecting the following:

int('<value>')

Input Value = String

Output Value = Integer

You are using mul() so the value you are passing in must be Integer hence the error.

"'The template language function 'int' was invoked with a parameter that is not valid"

Pass a string to int() and it should work I'd expect.

Oh... hold the phone...

So, when you say the string must already be in integer format... you are saying that it must already be an integer.  Thus, the int() command is limited to ONLY changing the "type" from string to int.  Thus, it will not truncate or round the value.

Hence, my attempt to do this also failed:

int('132.34213')

But this works:

int('132')

Seems what I really need to do is a split()

Hhhmmm, not certain on the below as you would think it was type = string, hence would work but your findings indicate otherwise. My only thinking is that a float value within string() seems to output as float() in this case.

With your post referring to the following:

Doesn't work:

int('132.34213')

But this works:

int('132')

I would also have a look at float() as that's why I reckon the former would fail as it is not a string and would still error. Although, I am really keen to see what your overall findings are and will do some testing myself but can't cram it in tonight I'm afraid.

I also agree, if nothing else works use split().

Woww... I am continually amazed.  PA/Flow... they are so very high level programming.  But... the little things like this are lower than low.  This is only half of what I need to do.... This gets me one decimal place.  But, it doesnt round either.

Ok... One slight variation, and it appears that I'm getting rounded results.

  float(
     first(
        split(
           string(
              mul(
                 mul(
                    float(sub(ticks(utcNow()),ticks(item()?['Requested_x0020_Date']))
                 ),1.1574e-12)
              ,100)
           )
        ,'.')
      )
   )
,100)

 This gets me two decimal places rounded properly.

I feel like there MUST be an easier way!

Hi @martinav 

Yeah, the inclination is to look for an alternative when you see code like that but some expressions can become a little irksome when this long and nested using WDL. Hey ho!

I will revisit this at the weekend or later in the week(I hope) and see if I foresee an alternative. Although if one is to be found I am sure you will return with it before long.

Anyone who could explain this in a simpler way?

I get a number from sharepoint list which is a "number" with 2 decimal places and I'd like to "cut" those and give as output only the integer part.

It doesn't matter to me if the output would be an integer or a float type, I just need to do the "cut".

For example: I want 2.01 to become 2 or 2.00
