Get UPN from email stored in excel online

Hi everyone,

I am currently creating a notification flow, where i have to notify a user and the managers user whenever an action item is near its due date. The data source for this flow is an excel file, the flow filters the action items near their expiration dates and notifies through email to the owners email, which is stored in an excel cell within the data source. My problem is, since I want to notify the manager as well, I am using the action "Get Manager (V2)", this action requests me the UPN but I only have the mail, I am using the formula "item()?['Email responsable']" to extract the owners email in the UPN field so that the output can be the direct managers email, however this action generates an error. I suppose I have to find a way to get the UPN out of the email from the user, which is the only information i have from the user. Can anyone help?

@MariaOseguera The error you are getting is due to the email column in some of your rows being empty. When reviewing the flow run, click on the Next Failed button (note: I'm using the Classic Designer—you can toggle this in the top right corner of the screen). The Get Manager (V2) action will only fail if there isn't a UPN.

If there is a UPN, the action will not fail.

You can solve this by filtering out any rows where the email field is empty by using this filter query.

[Insert Your Excel Email Column Name] ne ''

It's important to note. You may only specify a single condition in the filter query field for the List Rows Present in a Table action. Also, your excel column name cannot have any spaces

If you want to filter out your data with more conditions—you'll need to use a Filter Array action. Refer to this YT Tutorial: Are you using the Microsoft Power Automate Filter Array Action wrong?

In this video tutorial I’ll show you 3 practical ways to use the Filter Array action and how to use it properly.

1️⃣ Cross-Referencing Data

2️⃣ Filtering by Key

3️⃣ Substring Matching

Did you know that the Condition action has a limit of 10 conditions? Although it might look like the Filter Array action can only accept one condition—this is not true. By using the advanced mode you can enter multiple conditions into a Filter Array action with an expression.

How to Check the Number of Items returned from a Filter Array Action

How the Filter Array Action Works

How to Access the Dynamic Content from a Filter Array Action

How to Filter Items by a Key

How to Filter Items by Matching a Substring

How to Use Multiple Conditions in a Filter Array Action

Run a test. This time the flow doesn't have any errors because I've filtered out the rows that do not contain an email.
