Get items OData filter using a mutiselect choice column

Hi all,

I'm currently working on a Power Automate flow to retrieve a list of notifications from a list, and send these out to the corresponding users.

Scenario:

I have two lists,

ListA contains the list of users and notification category (2 columns). NOTE* Column 'NotificationType' is of a multi-select choice column.

ListB contains the list of notification type description (Title column) and notification type category (Choice column)

I would like to be able to send out notifications based on the selected notification categories from ListA and map those to the ones in ListB to get the notification type description in an HTML table.

I am running into an issue with filtering the notification type description when the list item from ListA has more than one category selected. Can someone help on this? I've used the substringof odata filter and it works with a single category but not when there are multiple ones.

Thanks in advanced.

I need to be able to query ListA with notification type (1) per se, and map that with ListB to get the notification type description for

Well the issue I'm facing is that in Power Automate I need to map the notification message based on a category within a multiselect choice column.

Hi @_sourcecod3_

Please refer the below snippet:

I have taken 2 lists: 'List A' with 'Notification Type' (multi choice column) & 'ListB' with 'Category' (Single choice column)

I have retrieved the list items from both the lists using 'Get items' action. The actions 'Get item 2' & 'Get item 3' ae used for retrieving list items from 'List A' & 'ListB' respectively.

Now, iterate the items in List A (Get item 2 action) and we will first create an array of Notification type multi choice field for each iterated item using 'Select' action:

Before entering expression pls click on 'Switch map to text mode' (highlighted in above screenshot) and then write the below expression in the box:

item()?['Value']

Next, we will filter the records from List B ('Get item 3' action) using 'Filter array' action where inside condition we match the Notification type with records containing its Category in 'ListB':

ManishSolanki_3-1689650303115.png

Expression for left hand operand:

contains(body('Select'), item()?['Category/Value'])

Expression used for right hand operand:

true

The output of filter array action will give you desired records from ListB.

If this helps & solves your problem, please remember to give a 👍 and accept my solution as it will help others in the future.

Try this in your oData query

substringof('value', CategoryColumnName)

Hi @SudeepGhatakNZ , thanks for your reply. The problem when using the substringof() filter, is that it only works when there's a single value in the choice column for that list item, but if a list item contains multiple values in the choice column, this filter doesn't return anything.
