New to powerAutomate - is it possible to sync between folders as a backup process?

Hi all.

I used to have an app which I forgot its name and I'd like to mimic its backup functionality.

Here is what I'm trying to achieve but didn't quite get there:

1. Designate a source directory (that can have sub-directories)

2. Designate a destination directory on a different HDD.

3. Decide on files to exclude (optional but nice to have)

4. Decided when to run the backup: Upon detected changes in the source directory, at a given date/time, time interval - either option is fine.

5. Copy only the changed/updated files and folders.

6. If files were deleted from the source, they will be deleted from the destination too, or better yet - stored in an archive folder for 2 weeks and the automation will delete the contents of the folder on the 2 weeks time.

Not sure if all of this is possible. I tried watching some youtube tutorials but I wasn't successful in getting what I had in mind. Maybe it's not possible and I'm just asking for too much from powerAutomate?

Where are these files? OneDrive? SharePoint?

How many files or folders are you trying to sync?

If they are coming from and moving to either a OneDrive or SharePoint it can be done. You can use the "When a file is created" or "When a file is modified" triggers. Or you can use a scheduled flow to "List files in Folder" and then compare.

No doubt it will be complicated to compare file names and prevent duplicates. But it can be done.

I don't have the solution, but an fyi that it is possible in OneDrive or SharePoint.

(Why do you want files in two places? The recycle bin keeps things at least 30 days.)

The files are local on my internal HDD and I try to back them up on external HDD...

Usually, external hard drive has their own app and has the option to do what you wanted to do (such as Western Digital-WD) Try find out your external brand, they might have their own solution/app.

Using power automate to sync and delete backup file will need to take serious look into the flow. If you still want to use, I suggest you to start with desktop flow.
