Populate Word Template with an image: How to implement using dynamic files (dynamicFileSchema)

Hello All,

I am new to Power Automate. I am trying to establish a flow that automatically populates a word template with a digital signature using dynamicFileSchema after it has been filled and submitted via Approvals. I however get the error "

The image is not of type PNG or JPG." I have used a variable and I have also used the get File content from path but all to no avail. Your help will be very much appreciated. see attached images.

I have got the solution. I got the idea from @SudeepGhatakNZ last suggestions. So actually, I didn't need the variable or even the base64 conversion. the problem was the inverted commas. I just had to use the file content of the Get_file_content_using_path without any inverted commas (""). See image below:

@OheneSiaw ,

Do you have an image control in your template?

Can you try base64 conversion in your varSignature

{
"$content-type":"image/jpeg",
"$content":"base64(outputs('Get_file_content_using_path')?['body'])"
}

Hi @SudeepGhatakNZ ,

I have tried various options using the base64 conversion but it's still not working. I don't know if I am doing anything wrong. Please see the images below including the error message.

@OheneSiaw

You need to use the expression builder to add the base64() function and add the dynamic content into the expression.

This is how it would appear in your Populate Word JSON:

Hello @AlexEncodian ,

Thank you for your input. I have tried that but it gives me the error:

Okay I see the issue. You don't need the variable. You also don't require Base64 conversion. See the steps below

@SudeepGhatakNZ

Thank you for the suggestion but unfortunately, this does not fit my scenario.

You see, the template I am using is for a memo that will be used by different users and submitted for approval via the flow. As such, users will resave the template with different names depending on the inputs of the memo. With that said, I can't use this suggestion since the submitted templates will have different names although they will be saved to the same location on SharePoint. That is why I need to use the dynamicFileSchema option.

@OheneSiaw

I don't know what the issue is...others might be able to identify it. But I tested it with Encodian and it works perfectly fine. This is what I did:

1) Set-up template (image template syntax: Images)

FYI - I used the fitHeight tag here because the source image is huge and I wanted it to fit into t height of the merge field (whilst maintaning ratio)

AlexEncodian_0-1715000371716.png

2) Built the flow

AlexEncodian_1-1715000421848.png

The template is dynamically selected as per your requirement:

AlexEncodian_2-1715000513574.png

...and then passed to Encodian:

AlexEncodian_3-1715000537656.png

I did the Base64 conversion because PowerAutomate erroneously converts the Base64 to binary:

AlexEncodian_4-1715000591358.png

and voila:

AlexEncodian_5-1715000629613.png

You can use dynamicFileSchema if you like. The problem seems to be the way you are setting up the variable.

You don't require base64 conversion.
